Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Harvard Blue was definitely an option for my18 models. We went with white instead and was annoyed when they introduced the navy blue a few months later as we wouldve gone with that.

        Actually not the case...

Harvard Blue Metallic was not available on an MY18 Passat; "specifications are as planned at September 2017, for MY18 and are subject to change without notice or obligation"...

Pure White has always been available on Passat models...

Harvard Blue Metallic was available from launch (Oct 15) MY16 and was dropped for MY18.
Night Blue Metallic was available from launch (Oct 15) MY16 and was dropped for MY19.5 and was replaced by Atlantic Blue Metallic for MY19.5.

Harvard Blue Metallic has been available on the Passat Alltrack since launch.
Atlantic Blue Metallic has been available on the Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg Edition since (Sept 17) MY18.

        • Maybe colours for 206 wagons were different? When we specced ours in August 2018 there was 5 colours. White, black, silver, grey and Harbard blue.

          • Hi Guys,

I am fairly late to this thread.

I am looking at replacing my 147 Jetta with a 206TSI. I have driven a couple, and am mighty impressed - the Passat has come a long way, and compared to my ageing Jetta, is it a proper luxury car.

How have these held up? Many of the early vehicles will be coming to the end of their warranty period, and before I bite the bullet and purchase one, I would like to know if there is anything to look out for.
I'm in love with my car, got a feel for my automobile.

            • Hi Paxton.

As with many VAG products recently, I'd suggest heavy oil consumption or the DSG are of most concern for long term ownership. And either can be a lottery regardless of use (or abuse).

The EA888 donk is a good thing but a tune can either release those hidden horses or shorten engine/drive-train life, depending on your point of view.

Some plastic trim gremlins can appear (squeaks, fizzes and cracks), and some bodies are built better than others (I recently drove a dealer Passat loaner which creaked more than an old house).

Otherwise they are good vehicles, bordering on premium Euro IMO. So if it sounds tight, runs smooth and has a good service record, you should be right. Good luck.

I have owned a 2017 R206 Passat for 3.5 years (68,000km) and am very happy with it. The Stage 1 tune and DSG tune make it go from very good to superb! It is as sporty and quick as a Golf R (I had a stage 2+ Golf R previously and the R206 is just as nimble and fast). It is more economical than my old Golf R but with far more room and nice ride quality.

I had to replace a leaking water pump just before the warranty expired but apart from that have had no issues. Love the car and would find it hard to replace with anything but another one. It performs well (0-100 3.6secs) and is very comfortable with a high level of equipment and tech.

It is similar to a Mere C200 but much cheaper to buy and run.

That is very optimistic timing equipment.

0-100km/h in 3.6sec... which Stage 1 / DSG tune did you go with, I must know about this miracle...
                    Was your previous Golf R a MK6 or MK7?
