  • Cheapest / easiest way to turn off auto start stop default

I would like to turn off the auto start-stop being on by default when you start the car. Is there an easy / cheap way to do this. I would prefer not to spend $150 on OBDEleven since i don't think i need that for any other reason. Any ideas ?

For the wifes Mazda I bought some little ODB module for very few $$ which effectively presses the on/off button every time you start the car. No permanent modification, no hassle to simply unplug it whenever needed.

A quick google turns up things like this which are slightly more complicated, but still easily reversible.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Car Auto Stop Start Engine System Control Sensor Plug Stop Cancel Cable Memory Mode For VW Golf 7 7.5 Passat B8 8.5 T-ROC Touran - AliExpress

This should do it. Cheap and these work on older VWs like your passat. Have used similar in Golf's and Audis with no issues.

If you're in Sydney, I have one of those start-stop intercept cables gathering dust which you are welcome to. I'm down near Camden though, so it may not be convenient pending your location!

I can also code the start-stop out for you if you'd prefer.

There are alternatives to OBDEleven... a Veepeak BLE+ dongle plus Carscanner ELM Pro will set you back $60 or so, and it will take care of coding all sorts of shenanigans for you.

I ended up buying a start / stop cable from ebay from an australian warehouse. It was pretty easy to instal. Car now starts with start/stop deactivated by default. Its made my day! Should have done it years ago!

You can also set it up in a memory mode so it remembers how you had it when you last stopped the car. You can also set it back to the factory default (start/stop activated when you start car)

            Thanks all for your help.
