As it should be here!!! I mentioned this so many times now... If you're dealer is charging you the full amount for the sunrood on a white R36 then THEY'RE RIPPING YOU OFF!!!!

Here in Australia VW wont offset the price of the sunroof with the optional cost of metallic/pearl paint. They say the paint is free on the R36. In Germany on the other hand a white one is about Euro850, or the cost of metallic/pearl paint, cheaper...
Well unless my maths is wrong my base price of $58 142 ex GST comes in at $63 900 effectively with GST so is discounted $2k on the standard price of $65 990. Because it is white it has to come with the sunroof (listed as an option for $2k) so the base price then becomes $65 990 including the sunroof for a white R36.

So it appears I paid no more for the sunroof on the white R36 vs a metallic colour car without the sunroof. Both are $65 990 RRP.

It makes the WHITE R36 the best value for money car effectively.

The standard non white R36 has metallic paint "included". The options list prices this at $1000. So people going for the metallic colours are getting their car at $64 990 base for the car, and $1000 of metallic paint value thrown in making the RRP $65 990.

White R36s are minusing the metallic paint, but have a $2000 sunroof thrown in. So its $63 990 base price with $2000 for the sunroof. So while you aren't getting the metallic $1000 paint thrown in; you're getting a $2000 sunroof thrown in. $1000 more value thrown in than the metallic paint car order. I hope it makes sense.

Someone who wanted metallic paint is having to pay $2000 on top of the $65 990 that a metallic car costs - taking the price to $67 990.

have to agree with Rocket on this.... if you are being charged you are being screwed over.

I signed up for a wagon with satnav and power tailgate and they had 2 that were showing as available in the System, White, or Grey (without a sunroof). I said I would be happy with either!!

They were both the same price!!

Yes - dealers LOVE me! lol What's the best price? $72k drive away they say. Make it $70k and it's a deal. But it has SatNav and sunroof they say. I don't care, I wouldn't order one with those options, so make it cheaper and I'll buy it. Done they say! lol Makes it easy for everyone and I picked it up 4 days later.
I've done the same thing, for a Holden, dropped it from a first price of $47,000, wound up driving it away with tinted windows, paint protection, towbar, care pack, etc, for $39,500. Basically just told the guy I was going to sit in his showroom until he agreed to the price I wanted to pay, and that when he had his best price, final best, no more mucking around, dollar less and he'd be sacked, then I'd consider it..

            How much?

I ordered mine at Brisbane motorshow February 2008. Picked it up June 24 2008. Told I had second one on road in Brisbane. Black wagon with sunroof. Paid $61,742 on road no more to pay. Negotiated well.

It's quite a different situation now, I'm finding, what with no stock in the country and the next batch pretty much already pre-sold. The dealers I've talked to just aren't entertaining prices anywhere near where some of those listed in this thread. Either that, or my negotiation skills just ain't what they used to be!

The price for a standard R36 drive away with corp. discount is around $63000. Which options are you after and what have you been quoted?

My dealer made such a "poor me" song and dance, almost felt sorry for him. I must admit that I don't feel I got a great deal, but they had pre-ordered an MY10 with Nav and no sunroof (which suited me as being my size, I really wanted the additional headroom) which brought delivery time to about 8 weeks - looking forward to mid October...

As a tact, if you feel you cant get much more out of them, where I was, I went for additional warranty (total 5 years) and tried for scheduled servicing.

They would give me one, but not both. So, when you have your best deal, I suggest going for additional warranty or servicing - they reckon each is worth about $1,500 and it really suited me to have the comfort of having full factory warranty for a full year after my lease... Not bad for resale should I want to move it on then.

also now past end of june so no more end of financial year targets to meet or beat. + the merc dealer says there will now be a shortage of virtually all imported cars in the pipeline as manufacturers in europe scaled back with the GFC and arent trying to shift excess stocks toward us.

This is ex GST and without Luxury car tax surely?

I got a driveaway price of $68000 with Sat Nav, MDI and Sunroof.

GST - $5724 which I get back at the next BAS anyway.

And LCT of $1737.72 which is kissed goodbye.

So ex GST of $62 300 is the effective cost to me.

No, $63400 is the all inc. price for a standard R36 wagon without options, ie. no roof, no nav no mdi, with corporate discount.
                        Cheers, John

If you picked up a total of 5 years warranty (2 years extra) you were given a worthless dealer warranties that will only cover you for a few hundred dollars in repairs and require you to send in the servicing coupons within a few days of service and with a cost to the dealer of around $50.

                          Perhaps you meant 6 years?

Sorry, that seems laughable... Which dealer? Show us a quote...

Or, if someone can what what $70,000 drive away (including Sunroof, SatNav, GST and LCT) is into the individual components, maybe it's not that different.

Actually if you drop the SatNav and Sunroof it's roughly $65,000 drive away. But that's sedan price.

S'roof, mdi, nav, auto tail...amount to about $6100 extra. Final price $69500. So you do the math Rocket...

After the bare bones quote I simply added as much as I could with a 70k limit. Others have done even better...

Yeah mine was $70k drive away with Satnav and roof but no "corporate discount". So I'm pretty happy all things considered.

That base price you said isn't really that laughable after all.
