Basic economics. Supply vs Demand. If there's limited stock they can wait until someone is willing to buy it. If they have a lot of stock it's better to move more for less.

Swings and round abouts. There's ALWAYS someone that will make a deal that satisfies the seller.

I didn't see that quote scotty1991 got, damn! better than what i got, but still i didn't pay the $84k that i was first quoted. Blacky i suggest you keep pushing. I paid a few grand more than scotty1991's brokered price, waited 4 and a bit months, but tomorrow i should be another happy owner of a R36 wagon...

        LOL
I would either a) try a different bargaining technique (like getting another quote to put in front of him if you must buy from that dealer) or b) get another dealer. Very few dealers will give you the best price first up or c) use a broker.

I used Private Fleet to source my R36 Wagon and have been very happy with both the price they obtained for me and also the level of service from them as well.

I tried Private Fleet and the best they could do is $74k for a white sedan with sunroof and SatNav only
Any other brokers I can try?

                  Hi R34,

Someone mentioned earlier on in this thread that prices have seems to "move up" over the last 12 months with thr R36's. I agree with that entirely.

The turning point was about May/June 2009 & progressed from there. Prior to that, VW had trickled in a few cars for stock & Dealers also order a few off their own bat at each of the regular manufacturing runs for RHD versions (I dunno, every few months I guess). The R36 was just starting to get some press late 2008 & still didn't get much recognition until early/mid 2009. The Dealers & VW were having trouble moving the R36 stock & Dealers found themselves with 2008 stock well into the second quarter of 2009 & couldn't shift the cars no matter what they tried. Add to that all of the hype around the release of the CC earlier in 2009 & the Dealers **** themselves to no end thinking this R36 was going to be a sales flop & they'd be stuck with the cars for ages. Hence us lucky ones were able to get half decent deals on R36's in 2008 & up to mid 2009. I'm sure a few good deals are still to be had but I remember when I was shopping around for an R36 earlier on in 2009, if I walked into a Dealership that had a R36 in stock, they almost wet their pants in the excitment of potentially getting that 'dud' of a car off the floor - from what I read, things have changed now! Then in mid 2009 (and those of you who ordered R36's then) every car that hit the country was pretty much presold & buyers where putting in order 4 & 6 months ahead of next shippment. All the old stock has been sold, the panic is over from the Dealers & the Dealers are able to sell pretty much every car that is manufactured in RHD & allocated to Aussie.

So, if you owned a VW Dealership, would you be giving your sales staff instruction to sell the buggers at any price you can or would you be saying to your sales guys "boys, hold out for the highest price you can get because we now know that there's another guy going to come into the door next week & he'll be prepared to pay more than this guy to be allocated the car"?

                  Good luck & happy shopping!

Gerald Slaven have plenty... They're never short of stock up there. They are also a better Canberra option in my opinion, given I originally went to Lennock in Philip and saw a 4,000km demo MY08 R36 sedan and got a quote that was $6,000 MORE than a brand new MY09 at Gerald Slaven with more options and 20km on the clock (which I now own)

One thing to remember with white ones is that the sunroof shouldn't cost you extra. It's standard equipment on the white R36's because they don't come with metalic paint.

Rocket is correct on this one... I have heard of dealers though who "don't know" about this.
