Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

So thats how it feels to be on top , got me a V8.

Fat mud tyres are on the list.
Had to trim 10mm off as I couldn't find long enough bolts. These will end up on the front but for a stop gap they are on the rear.

Nice solution to the problem. So maybe 100mm would have been the right length.

I mean, you not being familiar with long lugs and all, I can see how you made such a mistake!

80mm would have been spot on try and find bolts that long , but in the end everything has worked in my favor. cough 2" cough.

Rule #1 don't go bush on your own.
Rule #2 don't try and cross muddy ruts with road tyres.

Called on my brother who got out in his brand new Subaru outback , with some bogdey rigging of some surfboard straps he gave me enough snatch to just get her out. There was a good smooth groove from the bashplate for 3 odd meters. It was well and truly stuck. The missus was extremely happy when I returned with an interior filled with clay based mud.

Lot of lessons learnt that's for sure.

Oh NO! That's even worst than me pulling out of mud the Toyota Hilux with my T5 with only road tyres on.

It is amazing just how bad road tyres can be on a 4wd.

We got bogged in our work hilux as it had road tyres.
The farmer who pulled us out had the same car just jacked up with muddies on and it handeled the mud with ease.
