  • Something that has surprised me a bit in this whole process of advertising/selling the Tig is finding out what other people actually think of the car vs. what I believed they thought of it.

Going back to the first couple of times when I turned up at the hot hatch group and got sideways looks to now when that same group of people have a totally different opinion. The Tig has earned a lot of respect

It's not just the fact the it can keep a lot of hot hatches honest on a run through the hills - it's more the way it does it. While the hatches are scrabbling for traction out of a corner, the Tig just hunkers down and gets the job done. It may lose out a bit at the top end to the K04 cars, however up to 80 km/hr is where it works best which by the way is what the speed limit is.

So for real-world on-road performance the Tig is hard to beat.

    • nice work... so the above ground pool is not below ground/at ground level.
what did you do to reinforce the sides during backfill around the pool? or is it not backfilled?

        Adam,

The pool is at a height so that when we build a deck out from the rear of the house and put coping/paving around the pool it will be at the correct height (allowing for a slight drop-off from the pool for drainage). So at the moment it does sit up a bit but when it's all finished (in a couple of years) it'll be right

The backfill around the pool is a cement treated sand which gets watered in and sets hard. The main reason for this is that when the liner gets changed in ~15 years time that the pool maintains its shape when all the water is drained out.

If you are thinking about DIYing a pool I'd also get a few quotes for getting someone to do the installation. I had a bit of help along the way from my dad and father-in-law but it's a seriously big job and not something I'd do again in a hurry!

Yes there's a big hole in the driveway where the Tig used to be parked.

It may still make an appearance at the odd event. Still a little sad that I didn't make it to one last cruise, but when there's a buyer ready with cash you have to take it.

Certainly one of the best/favourite cars that I've owned.

Having come from Subaru & still having mates in the Subarue community.... You just wouldn't bother.

Talk about a marque that's gone backwards with every iteration after the gen4.

Exactly the reason that I bought it is that I'm not tempted to mod it!!!

Fingers crossed the gen6 is going to be a good reliable family/work car that holds it resale. Agree that they got it right with the gen4 and I think almost everyone that had one of these loved it (and still do). Subaru is aiming at getting a decent share of the medium car segment and unfortunately it means more mainstream vehicles that may not appeal so much to the enthusiast who wants to modify it into a performance car (i.e. no turbo motors in the range).

                  • I just think they've lost it in the styling department.

Most people I know lowered them because the springs (esp the rear) sagged & were excessively bouncy. Mostly they bought off-the-shelf "sports" springs. A couple of mates had custom springs made by K-Mac that were plus 50% in spring rate but std height - they worked well.

Make sure they join up to VWW (if not already?) and bring it along to our cruises!

True, and it was getting to that age and mileage where maintenance becomes a bigger issue, so it makes good sense.

We all just need to convince you of the importance of a new VAG project!

Yes it was a bit of a sad day. Mixed emotions as it does make way for a new car/new projects/etc.

Pretty sure they're on EuroSA - will have to make sure we post up cruise details there for the younger generation

Yes this was always in the back of my mind. Front brakes are going to need doing soon - good opportunity for the new owner to put on a BBK!!!

Funny you say that. I have been thinking along the same lines and putting together a criteria. This time if I do embark on a new project I think I'll plan it a bit better and also look at how I'm going to fund it also!!!!

You could have get a Q3 with a K04 (12.2 sec quartermile ) and beat RSQ3 stage 1 and you had lot of parts for that project in that lost Tig !!
