Well it's not looking good for the painted Savannahs (wife says no to dark wheels too). These were originally a polished finish but due to damage to the surface finish they got painted.

Unfortunately there's too much work/cost involved to get them back to a polished/silver finish (sand blast and repaint) so I think I may have to let this one slide for now.

Yes but it will still be an additional cost to paint them.

Main reason that I'm interested is to return the car back to stock as I'll likely be moving the car on in the next little while (as long as I can find a suitable replacement).

This would have been a relatively painless change-over as we could both re-use our existing tyres on the new wheels. There are not so many OEM rims in 19x8 ET35(ish) as they are not a standard/option rim that is available.

If I have to get the rims painted it also means I need some wheels to run around on in the meantime. I do have some 18's in the shed but they really need new rubber.

• a good mix of handling/performance/interior finish

I'm seriously hoping that the MQB platform Tig comes out in the next 12 months. I drive 30-35,000km a year and I'm currently at around 80,000km now. So I need to move it on/upgrade in the near future.

Probably you may have to look some other brands as well. Jeep Grand Cherokee range may be. They have very nice interior and lot of toys to play with including paddle shifters. And if you are willing to pay bit they come in V8s too. Sub 5 secs to 100.

Yes that was on my list to look at. Though I really don't want to buy a truck as my next daily drive. One of the guys at my work has just got one too.

It's a real pity VW don't have something between the Tiguan and the Touareg in terms of size/price as there's really nothing in the brand to move to that is a serious option once you outgrow the Tig.

It's called a Q5 and has an Audi badge. Agree a VW in that size would be perfect. I can't find anything quite like my 07 CX7 in terms of size, AWD and turbo petrol power. You might have to consider a V6 Kluger.

Why does it have to be an SUV? My wife's had a few SUVs & they seem to be big on the outside & small on the inside. Certainly no better at the job of moving people & luggage than a traditional wagon.

Have tou looked an an AWD Superb or Passat?

If you just like the shape of SUVs then the Lexus is worth a look. We've had klugers at work & I can't believe how early the stability control intervenes - eg: a corner that I can take comfortably (ie:7/10ths at 120 in the Octavia has the stability control coming on at 80 in the Kluger

Shame to see you looking at moving on from the Tig so soon.
Especially when you only got Stage 2 power properly a few months ago.

Yes but Q5 is heading North of $50k, so you can cross that off along with the Macan, Touareg, XC60, XC90 as well.

The other constraint I have to work within is limit on consumption of 9.6l/100km (combined). I get a fuel card with my work and they impose a limit to stop people from driving around thirsty V8's. So it kind of knocks the Kluger on the head along with a number of other 6 cylinder petrol models (Territory, Grand Cherokee, etc).

I realise I may have to head to a diesel if I go for a larger vehicle, but I've got a little bit of time yet before I have to get serious.

Yes it is a bit of a pity that I've finally got the car working like I want it. Though it's coming up 3 years of Tig ownership soon and I'll be hitting 100,000km by Christmas or thereabouts so it's time to consider my options. I may hold on to it for a little longer but that's likely to be an extra 6 months/20,000km.

Also I've decided to keep the OZ's for now. Perhaps even sell them with the car if I sell privately and not return the car to stock. Will cover that bridge when I come to it though.

I'd be trying to convince her of the virtues of a Passat Alltrack, or else the 220FSI V6 wagon. She'll just have to get used to it, as it's either a larger sports SUV (too expensive, as you say), or a wagon of some description. The Passats are both very good looking cars IMO.

I suppose there's always the Commodore Sportswagon... I'd never recommend one, but they look quite nice in profile and from the rear.

I doubt it would achieve the company fuel consumption goals in real world running unless tigger does lots of hwy work sitting on 80-100.

I know it has a bigger body & more wind resistance but my wife's 2013 V6 Captiva averages 14L/100km on ULP. 18L/100km on E85. 90% urban running. Thank the Gods that I don't have to pay for it.

Fortunately my company goes by the green vehicle guide and as long as it's under 9.6l/100km for combined cycle, I don't have to contribute to the fuel bill - no matter how I drive

So in fact the new SV6 Commodore does actually make the grade as well as Captiva (however not the 7 seater).

I've had an SV6 (VE) and not really a big fan. Especially how quickly they go through rear tyres. Plus depreciation on the Commodore is pretty woeful. It's a possibility but interior is not as nice and it also doesn't have AWD. But RWD is at least better on dirt roads than FWD.

That just shows how useless the Green Vehicle Guide is.

Captiva is not a vehicle I'd recomend if you've owned a VW & like gadgets / creature comforts / smooth ride / good suspension control. Just don't go there.

Yes agree green vehicle guide is just that - a guide. How you drive has a much bigger influence on actual fuel consumption.

But from a company perspective it's about as good as you can get in terms of setting a benchmark.

Agree with the Captiva sentiments. I'd also put the other Korean cars in the same group - Kia, Hyundai. Though have to admit I haven't driven any of them recently.
