Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

About 11 days - don't expect much in the way of communication either
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

        Can't remember!

But should only be 1-1.5hrs labour time (at the most).

The VCDS coding should take 5 secs (assuming you've got a compatible SW Control Module and we're just adding the paddles only).

I found this wheel on eBay if anyone wants to preserve the 'Comfortline' look of their car while gaining DSG paddles. The starting price is a bargain too:

Awesome writ up and other contributions too - thanks! Will def. look at when my 155TSI arrives to replace 2008 TDI we're currently running (in "Feb" - which, in dealer-speak, probably means "March or April"??)

              Very cool.

Also, I like the disclaimer at the start.

                very good write up.

But for a new/modern car, i would leave the job for the pro. better than stuff up myself.

that would be on the list after APR stage 1 on my Tig. it would be nice to go with R wheel... same power as R with APR but just heavier... lol

Wheel is awesome - did it with a friend (getting the airbag out is recommended as a 2 person job)

You have to remove the airbag to get to the bolt which holds the steering wheel on.

More specifically the "two person job" isn't really removing the airbag. It's removing the "horn / airbag cover" which can be a royal PITA on MK6 Golf era steering wheels.

Yes, you have to try to see the clips and undo them (need a mirror or phone camera) to get the horn off, airbag pops out as well. Then undo the bolt, take the wheel off, and keep the steering bolt dead straight, and put the new wheel on in the same position as you took the old one off, otherwise you might find the car turns left when the wheel is straight, etc. Then just put everything back on and change the code with VCDS.

Keep the new airbag with the new wheel. Was a slightly different shape in my case anyway.
