Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

It won't stop at 190kw but that is what most stage 1 tunes will go to, i believe GIAC goes higher.
Custom tunes are apprently more suited if you have a more detailed explanation of what you want or want smoother boost curves etc.

Have just put it in, but yet to test... Will report back after a few drives over the weekend!
Anyone have any feedback on these?
How much did that set you back?
I don't really know how much benefit it will give over stock since the airbox sucks hot air into it from underneath.
More than happy to hear otherwise

    • How abt the APR CAI intake kit? Is it true (according to a frd) that one should take it for tuning if u were installing a CAI?

      Comment

      • Was $110 + a bit more for freight from Rennenhaus. Good to deal with & quick postage!

Not sure how the CAI affects a stage 1 tune, but is a requirement for stage 2 tune.

You ordered those wheels yet, Dan?

        • I have contacted APR about the CAI. According to them you do not need to tune the car if you were to install the CAI because it is in front of the Mass air flow sensor (MAF), which means that it will do minor calibrations to itself for the extra flow. BUT they do recommend to tune it because you would gain much more power.

Thanks for that extra info on the CAI, 203132! I wonder if I have the APR CAI, wld another tuner like Viezu tune it and insure it?? Hmmm

            • Hi all,

I'm about to take advantage of the Easter sale on stage 1 ECU tune, but the dealer quoted me $1495 for the whole job... I thought they have a 15% off at the moment. I don't know if they gave me the discount and just added labour on top to total to $1495.

Did anyone with stage 1 only paid for labour in addition to the APR ECU program price?

You should be paying $1270 (flashed via OBD) - The newer "face lifted" Tigs have anti-tune ecu's so need to be bench tuned (involves pulling the ecu out) and even then there are no labour charges as far as I'm aware.....

I would call them back and mention the advertised sale.

                • Stage 3 clutch is available from DBC Performance.
One of the guys on vortex upgraded his after going to stage 3 and finding no solution available.
As he has upgraded they now have a template.

Might be a worthy upgrade when clutches start to go.
Or is you just wnat to get a heavier duty clutch.

Interesting. Anyone have any idea on shipping costs to Aus? I note they also state "Maintains stock OEM clutch pedal feel with no chatter or clatter". Anyone like to comment on whether this will be the case or not (more so the "pedal feel" as Mrs Donweather won't like the feel of a heavy clutch).

Also I have another question (and forgive me if this is a silly question)....I just jumped on the APR website and checked their performance gain charts and I noticed that they're indicating that the stock engine puts out approx 212hp (158kW). Is this chart now based on the standard 155kW Tiguan Model?

No labour charges on my stage 1 APR tune with the discount at Christmas. I did have the oil changed at the same time and it was a bench flash

Not sure if the price has recently come down or not, but my 'easter special' last year was around $1440ish with the 15% off.
No labour, just the advertised regular price less $15%.

                        • Thanks guys. Yes, I emailed them back mentioning the discount so now it's 1270 Should I be concerned about the bench tune?

How are you guys finding the stage 1 tune?

                          • So that is what 'bench tune' means...! Apparently the diesel Tig for the pre-facelifted model also has to be bench tuned as well - according to Viezu.

Bench tuning.... Nothing to worry about guys. The Pre face lift Diesel Tig is not bench tune - apologies if one of us said it was - it wasn't until 2009 when these went to bench tuning....

                              Cheers
