Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Ohhh that's good news for me, hopefully I don't have to wait for my ECU code to be developed!

I don't own a VCDS tool, so I'll just let the experts at Mona Vale do the work

    • All very interesting

I took my 132kw current model to my local APR rep for the purpose of having the ECU read This information was then forwarded to Brisbane. I am now just waiting for the local APR guys to get the appropriate tool or gizmo to enable the APR tune to be loaded into my ECU without having to remove the same, send it to Brisbane and I would be without the car for 4 or 5 days.

I've paid the deposit so now just look forward to the process being available in Canberra.

Any idea of a possible time frame Guy.

      Cheers

how much does it cost for the one in canberra?

will this void the 3years warranty?

                Panther

I paid a deposit on the listed Easter price special that runs until 21 April I believe. See the APR web at

                • With regards to 'bench tuning', due to anti tune restrictions, a tuner wouldn't be able to tune the ECU thru the normal OBD port. And because of that, one can't use things like V-Switch (Viezu) or APR's toggling mode.... Has anyone been in this position n still went ahead w the tune?

Perhaps you could share whether there has been a great inconvenience, eg lack to choice to different modes, or when servicing?

                    WOW!!!!!!
Just got mine done today .
Pulls harder and faster and smoother.
Revs more freely and has a swoosh and throatiness that I don't remember from before.

                    118tsi manual requiring bench tune.
3 weeks old, 1600kms on clock.
                    What a difference!
Not sure if there is a problem with switching modes because apparently only the150+ kw tune was available on the server so I can't currently put mine back to stock.
Tuner is looking into this and will update my car as and when the other tunes become available.
Frankly I don't care. Why would I want to put it back to stock and I've no intention of visiting the VW dealers service again.

                    • Hey guys...i've contacted a local APR dealer n been told they are having sales rite now...might b the same with the 1 u guys having over there...stage1 map plus 4 options...since my tig comes with cruise-control..its never easier to switch between programs n setting...as i've been informed...what matters most as the salesperson told me that APR chipping is undetactable by VW service centers compared to mtm,GIAC,REVO & etc...therefore we get to keep our warranty intact...since im still a newbie,i hope some of you might enlighten me with further info n facts about APR claims...
Btw,i've been told by gti owners that apr mapping will tend to jerks n judders more compared to MTM mapping...any idea on this as well?

                      • Had mine done this week. APR stage 1. Wasn't a whole lot of difference for the first 20km or so but after that it was chalk and cheese. The drivability has improved a huge amount in real world conditions which for my commute is fantastic. Put the boot in and giggle like a school girl. Love it. The bum dyno certainly notices a huge difference and with the Easter special I could simply wait no longer. Well happy.

                        • Drift, glad to hear u having fun with the upgrade of power...but im concern bout the rough gear change after power upgrade and juddering issue some of the folks having here on APR chipping...some said its not as smooth as some of the other brand's map...but anyway will try the 7days free trial if given by APR here..

                            • I've tried the DSG in all modes and not noticed any issues so far. If anything, the gear changes are smoother than previously.

I thought the 118 was quite reasonable - but your comments make me think...

                                Is there a downside ? - anything worse ?
