Also had the smelly air-con issue so i jumped on ebay and ordered a new cabin filter.
Old one (filter starts white when new) was 6 months old:

Got this one with activated charcoal (hope it lasts 12 months):
VW Sharan Tiguan Cabin Pollen Filter Active Carbon Mann Hummel 1K2819653 | eBay

Shipped to my door from the UK in 6 working days which was pretty good.
Fitted up in 3 minutes, stinky feet/cheese/mould smell was gone instantly.

I think you'll find the humidity up your way is a major cause of the mouldy filter syndrome. It certainly wouldn't be helping the life of your filter.Originally posted by team_v View PostAlso had the smelly air-con issue so i jumped on ebay and ordered a new cabin filter.

Yeah, i figure the humidity wouldn't help but it sits in the garage 5 days a week so i didn't think it would be too much of a problem.
So we'll see how this one goes and if it lasts for 12 months it is definitely worth the change.

All booked in for Recall Campaign 97Z9 (Fuse Thermal Overload).
Have been advised it will be an hour so i get to enjoy the facilities of the VW service centre.
Also recently went out with the lotus club to their happy laps and had a blast, surprised a lot of sports car owners.
Was also fun to see an X5 out and about with the group.

Just imagine how surprised they will be when (not if) you fit a K04 Clay ......Originally posted by team_v View PostAll booked in for Recall Campaign 97Z9 (Fuse Thermal Overload).

Hahaha, good to see more and more Tiggy owners jumping in the deep end and going for the K04.Originally posted by Sharkie View PostJust imagine how surprised they will be when (not if) you fit a K04 Clay ......

I think the problem was the cars were still under warranty for alot of the gen 1 owners so there wasn't really such a push to mod harder than can be reverted to stock in the garage.
I still like the blue but would love to see the Amarok/GTI style red rather than the maroon/burgundy one.

I do love the red as well ..... The Rok in that red is just such a striking package ..... agree would love to see it on a Tig as well.
BTW, keep an eye out for Stg1, 2 and 3(K04) Amarok upgrades in the not too distant future ........ be some happy laps in it then ....

Try turning you’re a/c off a minute or two before you stop the car. It’s a bit annoying to do I know, and sometimes you forget – but I believe the smell is partly caused by moisture from the cold a/c air that’s still circulating. Obviously it builds up over time in the filter.Originally posted by team_v View PostYeah, i figure the humidity wouldn't help but it sits in the garage 5 days a week so i didn't think it would be too much of a problem.

The original filter in my Golf only lasted about 12 months before it was very stinky. Then I replaced the filter and started turning the a/c off before stopping the car (the fresh air will dry out any moisture). My current filter has been in since April last year (close enough to 12 months) and absolutely no sign of smell yet.
Other people suggested turning off the a/c, so I decided to try it – seems to be working so far. I understand that on a 40c degree day this might not be something you want to do, but I think on most days it should be bearable.

Wasn't the clutch/gearbox the limiting factor here?Originally posted by Sharkie View PostJust imagine how surprised they will be when (not if) you fit a K04 Clay ......

Given that Clays Tig is a manual I don't think he was keen on upgrading the turbo until the other bits had been beefed up first.

Well the melting fuse recall was completed this morning, 30 minute wait and it was all done.
The clutch was the limiting factor in going for further upgrades given that the guys in the US are still trying to find a valid solution for the 6MT (Golf R Clutch doesn't fit apparently).
So the extra cost for a turbo upgrade + supporting mods and brakes was not really justifiable given i only go to the happy laps days up here and the car sits in it's garage 5 days of the week without the chance to use all the extra power from going past Stage 2.
Also i figured it would be better to sink the money into a holiday/investment property.

Just ticked over 34,000, I would guess that probably a quarter of those are from happy laps and VWW cruisesOriginally posted by MGV View PostHappy 4th birthday (the other day) to team_v's Tig! Many happy returns...

What's your odometer reading, mate?
The joys of living close to the CBD.
Car is booked in for it's 4yr/60k service on Friday.
This is a big one so the cost is going to be a bit more than the usual oil/filter services haha.
Still cannot fault the car for the money.
The Octavia RS didn't have the AWD i wanted and the Amarok was another 2 years away so i didn't really have many options.

Well, a solution now would be to get married ..... make the Tig your new wife's car (as a wedding present) and buy a new Amarok. End up with the best of both worlds .... keeping the Tig and getting an AmarokOriginally posted by team_v View PostJust ticked over 34,000, I would guess that probably a quarter of those are from happy laps and VWW cruises
