Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • So i paid for hte tyres on Monday and they were delivered from St George Tyres today.
    Pretty good turnaround i say.

Now i just need to book in to bob jane etc to get them swapped over before the next laps session.

    • What do tyre shops feel about fitting tyres you bought elsewhere? Just curious, as when i bought my springs & was looking for someone to fit them, the 1st 2 places i called said NO! (don't do just fit, only supply & fit). Supposing they want to make a dollar out of the work, they would want to charge an hours labour (or more?) with balance & align?

      • I bought my last set of wheels and tyres to my local Bob Jane and asked them to put them on for me.
No issues at all but they are a pretty reputable shop there.

I can see why some places wouldn't want to do it but even if they charge an hours labour it still works out to be $200 less per tyre than to buy them at the store.

        • Bob Jane at Coorpaaroo were happy to swap the tyres for me (even after I advised that i will provide the tyres)
It's booked in for Tuesday morning, $25 per tyre for fitting, balancing and disposal of the old tyres.

So all up $250 per corner delivered, fitted and balanced and old tyres disposed.

            • What business would say no to $100 these days. They maybe don't make any money on the tyres but they will pick up on the labour. In reality it's going to take them the same time to fit some All-rounders on an old Commodore and they probably only make $10 a tyre so they're really not losing out that much.

                245/45/R19's yes.

Like tigger said, when the economy is tought you don't say no to business, however i had them fit my wheels and tyres from another supplier, bob jane seems to be more accomodating for those type of requests.

                • Another fun morning out at Lakeside.
Tig performed flawlessly, new KU31's gripped really well only starting to let go 20 minutes in.

                        • Going to Lakeside tomorrow morning for another crack, hopefully it isn't as hot as today.
Can really feel the power lacking when the temps reach over 35 degrees.

The kumho's worked a treat but it really shows you how you would need to do suspensiona nd brake upgrades if you wanted to do anyhting more than regular road driving or spirited laps sessions like we get.

                            • Hi team_v, Just wondering have you done any 0 - 100 timing for your Tig ?

I am following your thread and it is quite inspirational. I am in the process of building up my Tig similar to yours, already flashed it with APR stage 1. My stage 1 Tig with DSG do 0 -100 in 5.9- 5.8 sec and hoping to go down like 5.5 sec with stage 2. I am using android Torque pro app and a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle to measure my 0 - 100 timing and it seams to be accurate.

I am also looking for a suitable downpipe but unfortunately APR has discontinued their product Other option is to import one from http://techtonicstuning.com/ not sure it it would be good as APR's.

I haven't had the chance to do a 0-100 time yet, might see if i can get a benchmark time soon though.
I was initially worried how the clutch would hold up but it has been fine.

A lot of the guys on vwvortex have used the techtonics-tuning downpipe as the APR one was too pricey for them to buy from Australia.
I think it is 2.5 inch instead of 3 inch
