Not sure if it helps but I traded my Tiguan in for a CUPRA Ateca [emoji12]

I went down the track of installing a Mk7.5 exhaust on the Tiguan but wasn’t really happy with it. I had the central resonator removed when it got installed and with the flaps open it was way too loud. When I closed the flaps it was better but still found it droned too much when accelerating to around 50kmh. I’ll admit when you drove it hard it sounded great with all the pops and crackles!

The CUPRA is a bit more subdued noise wise especially in Comfort mode but does give a more deeper throatier exhaust sound. Switch it to Sport or CUPRA mode and you get more noise a some pops and crackles when lifting off. Then there is the acceleration..... [emoji108][emoji1]

In terms of fitting the exhaust from one of these to a Tiguan, I can take some photos of the underneath so you can see the layout of the rear muffler if you want. I am pretty sure it should be the same as a Mk7.5 Golf R since it is the same engine and gearbox.

The hardest part would be finding one since you don’t get these cars over in Oz and there isn’t many of them around the rest of the place, I have yet to see another one driving on the roads here in NZ.

Problem is, we don’t get the SEAT over here. The only real option is essentially one of the aftermarket options ie: Milltek. I see they have recently released an exhaust system for the Ateca.

Pics of the underside would be great! I do think with the launch of the Ateca, a Tiguan R will definitely be launched soon.

Because you’ve gone through the whole swop out of the exhaust on your Tig, you’d be able to give us more or less an accurate answer as to whether it will work. I would love to fit an exhaust that’s flaps can be controlled using the cars switch-ability modes. I’m just not sure what a mission that would be to wire up etc...

Don’t think you’ll ever be able to control the flaps. The best option I could find when researching is a box the had a wireless remote control the allowed you to manually open and close the flaps. The Tiguan doesn’t have the wiring run to the rear muffler to plug into the actuators and I doubt you could just use one from a Golf R. I do like this functionality in the CUPRA, can have it on Comfort mode (suspension is still firmer than the Tiguan in normal mode so doesn’t roll around) and be nice and quiet then switch the dial when you want to have fun and you can hear the difference.

          • Hey Inasnt, how did you go with the valve controllers from AWE? What did you have to do to get it to work and what was the cost?

            • Anyone looking for a Golf R exhaust there’s one with actuators going for $300 on the Gold Coast / Coolangatta:

So no one has successfully installed a method to control the valves. I'll defo need to sort this out as I want to be able to control the hooliganism lol!

AWE will work. Think there is a youtube video of someone that has used the AWE who powered it from the rear 12v connection.

                      • My experience with having installed a MK7.5 R muffler with valves open is that the first week it droned like a mofo, but then mellowed out a bit after 1 week of driving. It has mellowed out even more now after driving for a couple of months to the point that there is hardly any drone. Try to persevere through the drone for a few months & see how it goes if you fit the muffler....

                        • Good to know, thanks TIG162R. After doing my mods I feel the stock exhaust needs replacing now as it really sounds like crap.

Could it be that you have just got used to the drone?

                            • No chance, the drone in the first week was deafening, to the point I was thinking of putting the resonator back on. The wife has even noticed that the drone has improved significantly.

I noticed that I don't get the DSG upshift farts with launch control. I get it during normal driving, the intensity of the DSG upshift farts are dependent on how heavy the throttle application.
is this with Valves closed or open?
