Any reasonable exhaust shop should be able to cut off the tips and reels them on.

I’d suggest removing the chrome trip pieces yourself before as it will save time on the hoist and you can be a bit more careful (if you want to fit them back later).

    • I did the resonator delete at Hi-Tech Mufflers in Darlinghurst. The muffler install I did in Ashfield at a place called MR Autosports. They just cut the tips, but cut the pipe to angle down (looks a bit of a hack job to be honest - but you cant see it so all good) as I didnt want exposed tips as everything is blacked out on my car...

This is exactly what I wanted to do with my exhaust as I had my exhaust tip dipped.
Do you have any clips of how it sounds? Or could we organise a meet up at your convenience? Cheers.

        • I've been trying to get some sound clips but they're not coming out clear - still working on that. Can meet up for sure, PM me to arrange

This is by far the best idea. Exhausts are very hard to get a good idea via youtube clips. It's distorted by the microphone you use and then also the speakers you play it back through. Plus it's almost impossible to get a good gauge on volume from an audio clip.

              • Has anyone managed to fit the Akra from the Golf R SE?

I think the problem here is finding one at the right price.

                  • Would seem a bit odd to overpay for a Golf R to get part of an Akra system only to then on-sell it.. I'd be just sussing out second hand R systems (OEM or after market) and working with those.

                    • Makes sense.

In short, can any system designed for the Golf R be suitable to the Tiguan 162?

                      • Technically yes, the cat back should be a direct bolt on (similar placement to the Golf R). But you will always need to contend with pipe extensions to allow the exhaust to fit the wider Tiguan body.

                        • Yes. The reason most people opt for the OEM Golf R exhaust is that it is (relatively) cheap and if you're chopping it up to make it fit out the rear diffuser you don't really want to be cutting into a brand new exhaust.

Also for most people the Golf R exhaust gives the right amount of noise. There have been 1 or 2 others try an aftermarket muffler but got too much drone. Again going with an aftermarket exhaust may be too much with a larger cabin in the Tiguan.

                              • Ended up doing the Golf R muffler retrofit without the res delete. Deleted the valves from the exhaust as they were closed.
Sounds like a less farty and crackle version of the Golf R. Will drive it around for the next week before deciding on taking the next step (res delete + plugging exhaust tips) if it's still too tame.
