  • Is there any difference between a Golf R wagon or hatch muffler and piping
I assume the wagon has some extra piping length but the mufflers are the same

Does it matter which you get for this excercise?

    • Yes they’re totally different.

Mk7 Golf wagon has twin mufflers

      • I tried to make a video from inside the car, but my phone doesn't pick up any sound at all. I got my wife to drive it up & down the road while I stood outside & it sounds wicked. Sounds heaps better from the outside than what it does on the inside.

I'm contemplating putting teh resonator back on to improve the cabin noise but I know that will effect the sound fro outside...tough decisions to make lol

If your phone is connected to your car bluetooth maybe it doesn't record audio as expected. Try disabling bluetooth. Would be good to hear outside audio of the car with the valves open.

          • OK I will attempt it again & try to get some outside recordings too. I can also confirm 100% that the valves of the MK7.5 are in the open position as per this photo I took of mine.

                i found them on:
                gumtree
                fb market
                MK7 R groups on fb
wreckers (although most expensive option I found)
                exhaust shops

eventually got from a member of a fb group

                  • Hey guys, have tried to take some more videos on my Samsung S9+, but its just not picking up the sound properly, dont know whats going on. I'll try doing some drive by's while the wife records & see if any better.....Also I've noticed after driving the car for 3 days after the muffler was installed, the drone had decreased significantly, its still there between 1000-1500rpm but not half as bad as before....

                    • I know someone in Sydney that was selling the full exhaust of a MK7.5 for $500 but it doesnt have the actuators. If you keen let me know & I can find out if its still available.

                      • I'm yet to pick a Tiguan up yet - close to making the purchase i'd say.

What aftermarket options are there for the Tiguan 162?

In terms of aftermarket exhausts - zero. Which is why everyone is fitting up modified Mk7/7.5 R exhausts. They mount up the same but just need the tips cut and re-welded to go out the rear bumper. From all reports most people are happy with the sound. Some people have done the res delete and some not.

If you can pick one up at the right price it's not a bad option. Yes you'll have to pay a bit to have the modifications done but it still will work out to a fairly cheap cat-back and keeps it looking OEM+

I actually doubt they will. There was nothing available for the gen1 so doubt that they will make one for the gen2.

It's not sold as a performance car - more a decent looking SUV/family car.
