  • What are your IATs like with the added boost, etc. ?

Generally FMIC upgrades are because of high IATs not so much air flow, unless it becomes a restriction and you're getting pressure drops from In/Out of the core.

Also, I wonder if that slight bump in the torque curve is caused by the 4 Motion sending power around. Similar thing happens on Skyline GT-Rs when the Attessa goes mental lol.

    • Cant recall the IAT's, I know the actual temps were input into the dyno dynamics software for the power calculation. If you want to cheat you can put in 100 degree or higher intake temps when actuals are 70-8- degrees which will give you a higher peak reading.

Bigger turbo would generally mean bigger cooler, did the same on my Skyline many many many many years ago.

      • Generally I use the weather station for the ambient temperatures and use the IAT for the compensation tables (fuel and ignition), IAT should not be used to determine overall power figures haha..

        That's cheating

I know certain shops would disconnect their ambient temp probes to read higher power, anyhow that's off topic

Bigger turbo doesn't mean bigger cooler, smaller turbo with big boost would generate much more heat than a bigger turbo with lower boost (where both turbos are supplying the same amount of airflow).

Sorry for all the questions, I've never tuned european cars so it's fascinating. I predominantly help build and dyno/road tune Jap siet boxes for friends and forum members as a hobby.

        • There are many shops that fudge dyno numbers, I have seen some put ambient temp sensor on the engine..

I am waiting on the guy that did the IS38 swap to get some dyno numbers.

Got an check engine light driving this morning which is caused by the O2 Sensor and new high flow CAT, coding fix will fix this which will get done tomorrow. From the picture of the dump front pipe hangers you can see the end of the hangers are close to the frame, it vibrates slightly at low rpm so getting that sorted on the weekend, other than that really happy with the stage 2.....

Discussed IS38 swap yesterday, supply (new), install, retune will be around 3.5k with the current mods I already have and will see somewhere near 230-240kw@4 wheels. With a larger than IS38 turbo will need intercooler, fuel pump, plugs, coils upgrade..
I’ve got a little vibration also at low rpm on startup, when I switch to D it does seem to go away. My CEL for 02 sensor has been coded out by the tune. Plenty of exhaust, dsg farts, pops and bangs, induction and craziness in S and Manual mode with ESC on sport and DCC on sport.

That price for the IS38 installed and tune sounds competitive! How many hours did they quote on the labour? My DP, turbo swap and change to colder NGK racing spark plugs was around 5 hours. I’d love someone to go Big Turbo on a Tig, it would be insane........

                You got CTS downpipe?

Price for IS38 was combined, didnt get hours for each part....

I’ve got the APR MQB AWD downpipe which also removes the resonator and bolts onto the factory muffler. I did that at the same time as the IS38, because they had to remove the stock DP to unbolt the IS20.

Got a pic of your car on the H&R lowering kit?
If you go a custom tune with your current setup you will have more power and better power delivery, JB4 can only do so much.

The difference from stock with the downpipe on mine is huge, sounds really good without being too boy racer loud

                      • yeah I was tempted to go MRC tune with a V4 turbo, but its a bit pricey, I know i could push about 300kw on the crank with a apr tune but I really enjoy the jb4 with the bluetooth dongle that I use for map switching, my daily Map only makes about 265kw and 490nm, ill post a pic later, need to figure this forum thing out still, lol

                        • I enquired about the JB4, they said it wouldn’t work with the Tiguan even though it has the same engine as the MK7 gti. Are you running the MK7 golf maps?

I've got a JB4 installed in my Tig, absolutely no issues running it. If you have doubts, email George at Burger Tuning (who makes the JB4) - he is incredibly helpful.

                            • You can use the pre set maps (4psi or 5psi over stock) or make your own boost curve with map 6. Just to tune to Air Fuel Ratio numbers and the fuel trims as the JB4 does not add fuel or timing. Can do road logs or tune on a dyno.

Even 2psi added to the EA888 motor wakes them up.

Auto instruct in Melb sell them, but 2nd hand ones come up often as people buy them to start then once you have done all the bolt on's, you'll get more power with a custom tune.

Ive had my JB4 for over a year and its great. Turn it up when needs, back to stock for the Mrs and remove the JB4 unit for dealer work.

But does timing drop with additional boost? or does it sit on the last load point and just apply the same timing? If you're not dropping timing you're going to hit MBT or nose over it very fast and hit knock territory
