Who do people recommend to use for turning in Brisbane? I have been waiting for Harding to come out with a tune for a few months and have just been told that they don't have a confirmed ETA on when they will have one.

I have fitted a BMS intake, muffler del, turbo elbow, divertor valve and have a down pipe ready to fit. Was looking at the JB4 units just wondering if the CEL error is evident with the JB4 and the aftermarket down pipe.
etuners or BPS, they are both custom tuners, and will give a tune with before & after dynos for less money than the “off the shelf” tunes (APR, Harding, etc)

Have a look a page back and the Redline tuned car is ~20kwaw down on the similar APR tuned cars (stage 2 files). So to answer your question not Redline Tuning. I think any of the other options would be reasonable - APR (known quantity), Harding/OEM+, Tarmac Engineering / Spectune, RD Technik (through Keeley Motorsport).

I did see that about Redline tuning.

Thanks for getting back to me, I like Harding but I have been asking them for a tune since I brought the car last year. I am itching to get the tune finalised. I will chase up the other companies you listed.

        • I think you’ll find that a lot of them are all in the same situation in that they don’t have a tune developed yet for the Tiguan.

Harding doesn’t write their own files so will be waiting for the overseas tune house to develop the file for the Tig.

It’s unfortunately the way things are that there’s not a lot of choice. Mainly because the market for tuned Tiguans is not so big as say Golf GTI/R. And also because it’s still a fairly new model so not that many people getting these tuned. So kind of supply/demand thing too as it’s a fair bit of work/development to bring a product to market when there’s not a massive demand (compared to spending the time developing something else).

          • Just a query... Why is this such an issue? If they're all MQB platform and sharing the same engine, why does it matter if it's a Tiguan 162TSI or a GTI?

            • JB4 owner here with a Downpipe, I get CEL every now and then, once a month to once a day (not sure what it really depends on tbh).
Its easily cleared via the Bluetooth/Phone App or a OBDII reader. It does be come a PITA to start with, but the Mrs is trained to let me know once its on.

JB4 is a great tuning option if you want to slowing Mod and Add boost along the way with mods (and I know alot of people with them, and VW/Skoda havent never denied warranty work. There Rumors that VW/Skoda have tools to detect, but never heard of any as yet. Just remove unit before going to dealer...

If your planning on doing everything ASAP, tune it with BSP/Etunes, Harding's is off the shelf tune from what I understand.

Like anything that's been "cracked", new versions have better coding/security features. (I guess)

I spoke with an Audi rep who said when a car comes in for service they do a tuning sweep. Some are harder to detect than others (JB) but they can still tell. I guess if there is any history storage that will show the car performing beyond the stock boundaries.

Ahh didn't know / think that newer ECU's were locked down. Carry on!

I believe tuning is flagged 1 way by fueling chainges, the JB staying within the boundaries of the Stock ECU fueling table, and stock boost levels are returned to ecu.
Yea 1 day they will work it out

Someone posted on the forum here somewhere that BPS/Spectune/Tarmac did their 162 Tiguan with decent results and at a good price. I'd go there if looking for a Brisbane tuner.

                      • My friend is the mechanic at VW where I live, he isn't phased with me putting a tune on the Tig, it gets serviced etc on a Saturday morn. He did say that the way that they tell if the ecu has been accessed. Is by the number of times the ecu has been plugged into, it has a counter, though if the car has a warranty issue than they can and will look deeper and can tell. But for your annual service it won't be flagged.

I spoke to Advanced service Centre, they have said they will be carrying out APR tunes in the near future, but at $1600 starting price, I want to get some other quotes. The problem with running the JB4, is if the CEL code comes up and my wife is driving the car she will not be impressed and to put it simply won't want to have to learn how to fix it on her own....

I'm considering just leaving it without the dump pipe for now and just look at modifying a golf R, RS3 sedan or a Focus RS for me that way I have fast four door car that my wife doesn't have to drive and worry about, decisions, decisions...

In terms of the APR tune, $1600 is very high, are you sure that isn’t the cost of a Golf R tune? I recall the rrp for a Tig was closer to $1300, also they have been doing 15% off recently so the cost should be closer to $1105 on sale. If you go straight to a stage 2 tune with the downpipe that might save you a little bit (as you are bringing a non-apr down pipe). If you went APR down pipe the cost of stage 2 is included in the price ie free upgrade from stage 1 to stage 2.

If you are throwing the rs3 FL in the mix, I personally would go an RS3 and perhaps leave he Tig, as is for the wife if she is happy. Stage 1 E85 time for APR have been getting between 10.7 and 11.1 for the quarter mile, truly remarkable. Super car performance in either a sedan or hatchback.

I was quoted $1600+ over a year ago by APR, so they immediately went to the bottom of my list of potential tuners. Plus they use more boost than every other tuner I spoke to.

I told the tuner it was for a Tiguan, he is also a a childhood friend. He said the price would start at 1600. When I questioned the price he said it was to cover the RnD cost and that was what it is. I spoke to the blokes at BPS yesterday. They seemed very knowledgeable about tuning VAG etc. They had also just done a stage 1 on a Tig and recently stage 2 with is38 on another. They quoted me $995.00 plus labour to fit my dump pipe, which was roughly $300. I think I will go with them. Will be calling another shop today to get a quote to compare.

As for RS3 etc. I am seriously torn between it and the RS Focus. I drove an golf R wolf a couple of weeks ago. It was good, though it was the wagon. I am yet to drive an RS3 and the RS focus, my local Audi dealership doesn't have one in stock and haven't been to Ford yet.
