I think we're struggling getting people to put a stage 1 tune on let alone going for an IS38 swap... Would love to see someone put a full stage 3 set-up on one

But then you're looking at some serious coin as you have to start with a 162TSI, intercooler, exhaust, intake, tubo, DSG and ECU tune, inlet manifold, etc.
There are now a handful of Tig 162 TSI stage 1 cars around....it’s a shame that the 132 TSI misses out on the Mk7 GTI engine, I think that would have resulted in more stage 1 MQB Tigs.

The IS38 swap is prob a bit cheaper than the K04 I did on the Gen 1 Tig. You would probably be able to do it for around $3.5k excluding dp, ic. Would that be considered stage 3 or does it need the big turbo EFR7163 to be the real deal? I would love to see the Super Tig reincarnated as the 162 TSI Tig, do you think Guy Harding would take up the project ? I know that racingline has a stage 3 kit they have installed on the MK7 R that does the 1/4 in 10.9s. Maybe the Tig could do mid 11s....that would be insane.

I have the apr turbo inlet, 5 ply intake hose to the airbox with a BMC drop in with snow guard removal and it does sound much nicer on acceleration. Prob minor gains if any.

To me stage 3 is proper big turbo.

I’d call IS38 a stage 2+ because it’s just a bigger stock turbo. But you can call it what you like

Agree it’s a pity the 132TSI is not a detuned 162. It does change the value equation where you could spend sub $40k and end up with a sleeper SUV capable of surprising many other cars at the lights.

No idea what tuners have planned. It’s still relatively early days and as you say there’s only a handful of 162’s running stage 1 tunes at the moment.

So for the sake of science and research I’ve bought the new “dragy” GPS based performance monitor. It is meant to be as accurate as a VBOX at a far better price, the big positive is that it allows you to record the data in an app and bench mark against cars globally!

It’s arriving over the next few days. When I get a chance I’ll record some times for 0-100 with and without LC for stage 1 APR 162TSI.

Does anyone have dyno runs of the stage 1 tunes before and after? I know the claimed increases are there but it’s always nice to see the before and after graphs. Underground performance do abit of work on VWs in melb

I haven’t done one on mine for the APR tune, however if I get the TCU tune from eTuners Motorsport they are offering a dyno run for $100. I might be able to get the “after” dyno. I’ll post it if I get that done....

Ok...drum roll. On the new Dragy performance monitor I recorded a best time of 5.45s 0-100km/hr using launch control. Note the current temp outside is 29 degrees celcius, there may be a little more improvement to follow perhaps on a cold day. So pretty happy about the APR stage 1 tune for the 162 TSI.

That’s pretty good. I think I was getting around 5.5sec on my stage 2 gen1 Tig..

Can anyone confirm if the performance monitor tab in the car menu on the discoverpro unit registers higher Kw than 162 once it's been tuned or does the digital display max out at 162?

That's excellent Melbourne_tiggy, from a quick google that seems on par with the GTI stage 1 so the Tiguan is keeping pace! Congratulations and I am jealous.

Only goes to 162 unfortunately unless anyone knows of a way to change it with OBDeleven etc.

Yes, confirming it only goes to 162 Kw in the performance monitor,
it would be good to see whether it goes to the claimed 230kw. The boost seems to be quite accurate, it does go over 30 PSI.

It would be awesome if someone could let me know whether via VCDS or OBDeleven this can be increased ?

Hi Ozrod, thanks. The Dragy hardware and app allow you to compare your car’s performance against cars around the world. Its mostly USA at the moment that use Dragy, it’s still a new product released Nov last year.

The Tig beat a few stage 2 GTIs on the Dragy leaderboard, must be the 4 motion traction advantage. We are lucky in Aus to have access to Gen 2 Tigs with awd, DQ500 MQB box and GTI engines, I understand they don’t have these in the U.S.

I’ll wait for some better weather and then have another crack, but pretty stoked with the first official run.

Thanks Dan. Hope to improve those numbers on a colder day - it was 29 degrees last night during the run.
