    Hi @Melbourne,

Can you describe the differences? Does it actually feel a lot faster or no major difference. Thanks!

      Hi Tiggysaf,
It is a night and day difference to stock. The acceleration feels much more aggressive (albeit linear) and the car is far more alive, in terms of feeling more like a performance suv with power to match. The chassis in the r line feels so planted and stable, I feel like it could still handle even more power....I’d love to see more development on this platform in the community, hopefully someone will do a big turbo swap

        Hey Melbourne_Tiggy,
did you get the dyno readings as well?

The stock 162TSI is specified as having 0-100 acceleration time of 6.5sec.

To drop a full second to 5.5sec is very noticeable. That's getting quite rapid and heading towards stock Golf R times (manual does it in 5.2sec though the new 7 speed DSG does it in 4.8 ).

I reckon stage 2 Tiguan would level-peg a manual R and give the DSG a bit of a hurry along especially if you got the jump at the lights

I think this has made my mind up that I should be getting a stage 1 tune...

Hi Ozrod, at this stage I’m prob going to use my mod money for a TCU tune rather than a dyno run and save for a down pipe for apr stage 2. I will continue to use my dragy performance monitor to log the runs after each mod, to track relative performance changes.

Tigger73 you are a bad man....I have picked up the mod bug again and have been thinking about the next mod. Probably going to go the TCU tune which will allow an increase in launch control rpm, higher rpm for each gear, remove kick down and 20% faster shifts. What rpm do you think I should set for the revised launch - is 4500 to high?

Post tune it will feel like a new car, in particular S mode will be rather animal like. Note however, D mode will retain its crown as “Donkey” in that it continues to shift upwards to find the lowest rpm for a particular speed. I will be getting a TCU tune next to make it more performance orientated rather than fuel saving.

Well technically it's still a new car as I haven't even put 500km on it yet, these forums have made me consider doing it.. but your stats have pretty much confirmed that I should

Who’s doing your work and do you mind if I ask what you’ve paid for the tune etc..?

If it was mine I’d be doing the DSG tune, full exhaust (or at least mod it to get pops/farts) and stage 2 ECU tune plus rear sway bar as a minimum.

I’m terms of launch RPM 4,500 is pretty high. I’d be inclined to run it closer to stock launch rpm just to be nicer. Unless you’re planning on running it down the 1/4 mile and chasing times it’ll just put more stress on everything for maybe 0.1s. To me it’s not worth it.

I’d be doing an IS38 swap before raising launch rpms to somewhere things can break. You’ll get a better time and it’s mechanically more sympathetic to your driveline. That’s if chasing times is important.

With a stage 2 IS38 swap you’ll be running mid 4 seconds easily.

                          Hi Smarty
My tuner and mechanic is VW Park in Nunawading, ask for Alan. They specialize in performance tuning and hardware. The price of the tune is $1299, however I purchased it when they had a 12% off sale. From time to time APR have specials during the year. If you buy a few things they can work out a package price.

Hi Melbourne_Tiggy, are you going to get them to do your services as well? The APR Stage 1 is very tempting but of course I'm worried about going back to the dealer for services and being told "we have a problem".
I was thinking of getting the tune then using a third party here in Sydney to do the yearly services(VolksMuller is close by). Since warranty is only 3 years that really just equates to 2 services and one "just before warranty runs out" checkup.

Sounds like a good plan. So in terms of a high level plan, subject to saving enough coin for the “mod - sinking fund”-

                              1. APR stage 1 tune (done)
                              2. BMC panel filter (done)
                              3. Remove intake snow grate (done)
                              4. APR turbo inlet & inlet pipe to airbox (done)
                              5. VW racing turbo muffler delete (ordered)
                              6. TCU tune
                              7. APR MQB AWD downpipe
                              8. APR stage 2 tune
                              9. Resonantor delete (to enable louder pops and bangs, DSG farts)
                              10. IS38 turbo swap
                              11. APR intercooler
                              12. APR hose kit
                              13. CTS Turbo outlet pipe
                              14. “SIKTIG” custom plates - extra 10kw
                              15. APR decals and stickers - extra 5kw

Realistically, I will prob stop at no.8....

Hi Ozrod, I have been a customer of VW park for the past two years and Alan has been very accommodating. He has APR tuned 3 x Gen 1 Tigs in my family and done all our mechanical work and servicing. My last major project was a K04 turbo swap on my GEN 1 Tig with an APR tune. Based on my experience with independent specialist VW mechanics I would never set foot in a VW dealership unless I had a warranty claim, they are a genuine rip off. The risk you have to accept is that even if you flash back and go back to stock, they may be able to detect the tune and potentially void a warranty claim. I have accepted that risk. Life is short - MOD is my motto.

I’ve heard very good things about the Muller family and team, have a chat to them about also providing the annual servicing. Its great to support the local independent VW specialists and also in turn receive competitive pricing (usually lower than VW charge) for services and hardware.
