    • Hey guys I was talking to Underground Performance in Melbourne about their e85 tune for the tiguan, and they said I need car to be at Stage 2 with upgraded intercooler. Does the mk6/7 intercooler class as upgraded or do I need a Wagner or similar one?

Im surprised they cant do a stage 1 e85 tune like the RS3 FL, maybe a matter of time.

Stock pump, injectors, fuel lines suitable for E85?

No you'll need an aftermarket one from CTS, Wagner, etc that's marked for use with the Tiguan. The connecting pipes are different on the Golfs.

After seeing the numbers on a fair few cars after going E85 you won't see many being able to get it with just a Stage 1. E85 unleashes a lot of horses that the Tiguan isn't designed to cope with in stock form. The RS3 is an exception in this case, you can't compare it.

          • Went to try and get the APR tune for stg 3 and my Tiguan can't take it. Didn't realise that was a thing.

Going to try and get it custom tuned. It's really strange because bluefin tuned it no problem.

I understand that there's a few different types of ECU's that they use. Kind of like the stock tyres that are fitted are a mix of Continentals and Pirelli's and it's a bit of a luck of the draw what gets fitted to your car. Same thing with ECU's - one may be Bosch and the next one is Siemens, Simos, Continental or one of a number of other manufacturers. Each may have their own security/protection.

Also you can get different versions of hardware/firmware even within the same manufacturer so it can be that one version of firmware is cracked but others may still not be able to be written/read.

And it will also depend on the tooling that your workshop is using as not all will be running the latest updates/hacks.

              • I'm learning a lot about the Tiguan doing these upgrades..

Hopefully I can fit my parts as I want to keep it moving. I have a plan B if my guy doesn't work out.

                • I'd see if someone else with different tooling can read your ECU. Sometimes you actually have to select a different model car that comes with the same ECU to get it to work as the ECU wasn't linked to the Tiguan but another model. I know this can work with some tooling.

Otherwise you'll have to get your dealer to push his supplier to get the updates to work with your ECU.

                  • How much are the APR stage 1s going for at the moment? From memory when I tuned my S3 a while back, it was approx $1,100.

Superchips are doing a 30% off their product and you can also apply a $50 voucher to it taking the price down to $725.

I'm going to do the MK7R exhaust mod soon and was wondering if it would affect any of these tunes?

The superchips tune was awesome... like a real massive difference. I got wheel spin just by flooring it off the mark withOUT launch control.

I returned mine though, and have the turbo and DP in my house waiting to be installed, which will be with a custom tune.

Have been told APR retail is $1299, i've heard of 10% off promotions. Are the tuners negotiable on price, there are no promotions on at the moment.
I think i've settled on using APR as i'll only go with a stage 1 and do not plan to make any physical modifications to the vehicle.
If at some stage i want to go back to stock is this something i can get done easily or am i up for another $1300 clams?
Going back to stock is a free unlimited service APR provide. Once you have purchased the Stage 1 tune you can have it removed and reinstalled free of charge. I’ve done it numerous times. I paid $1000 for my stage 1 tune. Best grand I’ve ever spent and easily the cheapest HP you will get.

Yep I caved and got the wife's Tiguan flashed at German Performance Garage for $1100 during the sale, prior to that I installed both the Racingline Turbo Muffler Delete and Turbo Inlet.

One thing I did notice with the Tiguan is the paper thin FMIC, with the APR Stage 1 tune it's now seeing boost peak at 1.5bar and tapering down to 1.4bar (turbo compressor efficiency full hitting a brick wall hence boost drop) which does make it feel very "urgent" to move - however, with the boost comes heat soak. After a few fun squirts you can really feel the heat soak, which I assume the ECU's strategy is to trim ignition timing vs. intake air temperature.

Next and hopefully last mod is to fit a larger FMIC.

And that's it, no more mods.. LOL

But the ECU will have a flag that it's been modified, even if the tune is removed, right? (Therefore likley voiding the drive train warranty)

Correct, was told this by my mate that used to work at Skoda Parramatta.
