Who is doing the tuning for this? Are you staying with Spectune or going a different way?

Interested to hear how you go.

      Melbourne_Tiggy you are 100% right
Not wanting to sound like a nobo, but here goes. Are you guys getting these parts online and then getting a mechanic to install them or are you brave enough to install them yourself? Is it better on the hip pocket this way and what sort of mark up if you just get the mechanic to supply and fit?

Good question, depending on what the part is I've either done it myself, from an online purchase (Look for MK7 GTI YouTube videos for fitting hints) or have had a mechanic who specializes in Euro performance cars perform the work.

My next BIG mod is booked in for tomorrow, adding an IS38, dogbone and muffler delete, turbo came from a wrecked MK7 Golf R that had done under 15,0000Km. Its the revision H of the turbo which is the one to get I hear.

Bit of deliberation to go the next step from Stage 2, sure I'll be happy with the results. Sticking with an APR tune, have no complaints with it.

Car is going really well currently, exhaust sounds so much better once the downpipe has bedded in after a few weeks driving.

Be interested to get it on a dyno to see the final results as well as some 0-100 runs. Be close if not identical to Melbourne_Tiggy would think.

Hi The_Tig, it’s an exciting time with you and J_cheung23 both installing an IS38. I wonder if there are many others creeping the streets with their IS38 sleepers?

It would also be interesting to see whether an aftermarket intercooler (APR, Wagner, Intergrated engineering) does anything for power? In some of the IAT graphs it seems that there could be upto 20 degrees difference with a good aftermarket intercooler vs stock, this would translate into more consistent power delivery. In particular I know J_cheung is Queensland based, so this might be a necessity for the hotter whether to reduce IATs.

Keep us posted on your install tomorrow. Very exciting.

Did have a chat about a new intercooler and recommendation for Victorian weather was not to bother, heat soak is not such an issue for us down south. I'm getting to the end of the amount of investment I want to put in with upgrades so don't reckon I'll bother to be honest.

I am going to retune on a dyno at tarmac engineering/Spectune. Those guys (Ben) are very experienced at tuning our vehicles

Yeah since I changed the intercooler on my mazda MPS I've noticed a big difference, our summers are 30+ degrees. But the intercooler was an absolute nightmare to install... took more time to do that than installing both downpipe and turbo combined. Since I'd be mainly surprising those HSV/Holden SS at the lights with my Tig (rather than taking it to racetrack), I might not go ahead with intercooler upgrade

Off the line with launch control, the Tig is surprisingly nimble. Going up against stock hsv and ss shouldn’t be a problem with an is38.

If it’s a few squirts here and there you should be ok. I heard the IC for tig should be quite straight forward 2-3 hrs work. People have also changed the throttle body pipe and turbo outlet pipe at the same time. There aren’t many dyno charts available showing before and after gains though and it’s more anecdotal like “better throttle response” or “bum dyno” increase. Has anyone changed these on an MQB platform and is able to comment on their experience ?

                            • Ignoring all the for/against of piggyback vs. flash, has anyone used a JB1 or JB4 on their 162 yet?

Would be interested in hearing any feedback.

The only problem with the JB1 / JB4 is they are limited to effectively a low output stage 1 file. If you ever decide you want some more again then you have to start again with the flash tune route.

Good thing is you can sell them and recover some money when you sell the car. Tunes you do your dough 100%.

The problem is there's not a lot of back to back comparison testing for flash vs. piggyback so it's just a subjective opinions that you'll get. Most people will think that it's great until you get used to it and then you'll want more....

Which is why you really should get a flash that's upgradeable to start with
