If anyone in Adelaide would like to know what is achievable I'm happy to arrange to take a read of your ECU and send off for evaluation. Ideally one 162TSI and one 132TSI and then we'll have an answer to everyone's question.
So if you are after lots of grunt you have to start with the 162.

Have you noticed an improvement in performance once you've laid down more k's? I'm on 1800kms a the moment and it feels like the engine has really opened up, seems to be delivering more power, at least the acceleration feels more urgent now. I'm really enjoying driving it a bit more spritely. When I first took delivery I was disappointed with the power (I was babying it a bit, but testing it here and there); I thought a tune would have to be the answer. Now I don't think I'd bother with a tune, I don't really feel like I need it to go any quicker.
I have been overseas for over a month. Just recently got back. I am still on my first tank of petrol. Just covered 380 km.

Ordered: 2017 build date Tiguan 162 TSI Highline with DAP in Tungsten Silver and rear luggage tray. ETA: late April / Early May. I did not have to wait. I took delivery on 11 March 2017.

Hi Gladbach,
I have just done 5k and I think I can feel the difference too in particular in lower rpm- although I think it flattens out a bit at higher rpm - it's a lovely drive and the kids always ask me to put it in sport because they enjoy the feeling of acceleration... and it's not only the kids that enjoy that
* Engine cover removed -2secs to remove
* Under tray cover removed -2 to 4min to remove (about 8 torx screws?)
* Install 3 plugs - plug D underneath taking about 2 to 4min, the other 2 plugs take 1-2min
*JB1 Module kept in battery side location on intake hose side
*HP figures on there website which are accurate from experience on my S3, GOLFMK7 forum, dyno sheets, YouTube, logging, qtr mile times from various owners....etc
*BM JB1/JB4 proven many times over on BMW/VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat forums all around the world...thumbs up to a great product and value and ease of install, removal, settings, tuning, logging etc....

The JB1 is a great product but a full ECU tune will always be superior. VW have added new flags in addition to the original TD1 that are about tuning boxes. I assume the analysis of logs from the ECU would allow them to detect this if they really wanted to. That would obviously apply to the ABT solution as well as the JB1/4. I went from an JB1 to APR on an S3 and there was a good bit more power.
I'm Sunshine Coast myself, but Guy Harding (Harding Performance) in Brisbane does Racingline. He originally had APR (which he installed on my current Tiguan 147 in 2009). You will have to check websites for the other tunes.

From what I know, this Guy Harding was the reason the APR products were totally overpriced while he was more than happy to spread all sorts of inaccuracies regarding supposed differences in tunes between the US and here justifying the rip off and as a result APR pulled his distribution rights.....which is great! He was also happy to spread outright lies about ABT. Not that I'm an ABT fan but the BS he was spreading was just a joke. He actually said that it was just a couple of wires and did not increase performance at all. I would not trust him with anything.

Hey ewok666,
Yerp, 100% agree on everything you said and I posted about the various flags being detected on this forum not long ago....
For our Tiguan and what we use it for ...JB1 is more than enough ...fits its purpose
I went the same direction on the s3 as seen in our ozaudi forum ...under "jaydece"
Jaydeecee18: now that you have had the JB1 on your Tiguan for a while, how are you finding it? Is the powers only in the upper rev range or throughout? How's the drivability and how is the car when using ACC? Eg, does it accelerate too quickly when following a car?

Do not agree at all. If you knew Guy at all and the way he worked you'd understand that most your comments are totally wrong ....
I know for a fact (saw most of it myself) that when APR used my Amarok for development of the Amarok TSI tune, Guy and his team did in excess of 120 runs on their dyno running different versions of the software as part of this (at their own cost I might add). Good result I might add too as it made in excess of 200kw on a gen 2 TSI EA888 with a tune only ....
Also, running a big operation, distributing hardware and software like that costs a lot of money. When everything you import as a distributor attracts import duty and GST the costs just keep on going up. A privately imported exhaust costs at least 20% less than the wholesale landed cost due those government duties for instance.
And finally, APR USA changed their distribution model around the world. All distributors where cut out overnight, worldwide, APR Aus was just 1 of those .... do not spread lies without checking the facts.

I do not spread lies and would appreciate you not accusing me of it.
This has been repeated so many times but in a nut shell: Understand the markup on services and hardware parts but there is no excuse for a US$600 tune costing AU$2000 here.
Glad you have had a good experience with him. I never dealt with him but had to put up with plenty of his comments on the other forum that were bordering on reputation bashing. Clearly claiming that ABT is a placebo box is not right.
Lets keep it civil and on topic guys. This thread is for discussion on tuning for 132TSI and 162TSI.
Plenty of people bought APR tunes back a few years ago as they had the largest dealer network in the country as well as local back-up/support. That kind of thing doesn't come free.
There are plusses and minuses for each type of tuning option. One of the things that tuning boxes promoted a couple of years back is that they are undetectable, however now there's more sophisticated detection methods and it's something that these manufacturers can no longer guarantee. The ECU tunes claims were that they are not interfering with/maintain the integrity of the inbuilt protection as well as make more power than the tuning boxes.
Ok, so I have ordered the mid spec 132 comfortline with LP and DAP. I too am interested in giving it a tune however I noticed that some of you are keen to give it a Stage 1 tune. I would have though that the compomnents in the Tiguan are probably not rated for higher temperatures compared to the GTI and R so wouldn't a basic stage 1 require hardware mods?

I wouldn't assume that the 162tsi in the Highline Tiguan is any less able to cope with high temps etc than a golf gti engine.
Also, I am yet to see some evidence that the cooling system in the 132tsi Tiguan is any less robust. However, the high compression ratio on the 132tsi really reduces how far the boost can be raised etc before things start threatening the durability of the engine - no matter what hardware upgrades, except internal ones

In summary:
- Loving JB1, wakes up the car nicely, it's not a flash tune but for what it is ...money worth it
- Extra power delivery and urge is from about 3000 to redline (compared to stock)
- Lower rpm and normal driving, don't notice any difference (compared to stock)
- Throttle response is about the same I would say in D and S mode, and other driving modes (compared to stock)
- ACC haven't noticed any difference
- At times, when you slowly feather the throttle down, there is a delay in the extra power delivery and urge being delivered, but this is more the throttle map i believe than the JB1 ...could be both factors (it is a piggyback after all) but I'm nip picking here
- WOT and stepping your foot down on and off, no issues with response and get up and go
- No issues with the JB1 hardware and no cels on the car ....
- Haven't adjusted or played with the different maps, running map1 as delivered
