Just read that the Tiguan 132 engine uses technology (already deployed by Audi) similar to the Miller Cycle which is an old technology and previously used by Mazda, except Audi/VW are not willing to call it the Miller Cycle. Their version (B-Cylce) uses a Turbo charger rather than a super charger. Not sure if that makes any difference to the engine's tuning limits or not.

Long time lurker, who has just joined here ...

      Great work jrgti.

A bit of Googling that info turned up VW's New 2.0L Turbo is More Efficient, More Powerful and Runs on Regular Gas » AutoGuide.com News (and other links such as https://media.vw.com/release/1389/ ) (note these links are from a US market perspective which is about to get the Tiguan 2 that non-US markets have had for some time, so the engine being discussed is the engine we already have).

So the 132 is quite a different engine than the Golf GTI engine used in the Tiguan 162 (i.e. while still in the same family (EA888 Gen 3), it is more than just a detuned version, as it has significant changes around camshafts, valves, chain drive, turbo, injectors, cylinder crown, piston head etc etc).

      All very interesting!

Note I don't feel that the 132 is in any way inferior to the 162 - it's still got plenty of power, and the torque is amazing (it's like a diesel), while being easier on the gas pump and my wallet .

Who has a stage 1 tune on their 162TSI?

Close to 5000km and about time to get more power. Has anyone had an APR or similar put on the new Tiguan?

        tia

I have had an etuners custom tune on my Tiguan 162 for about 6 months since 5000km. Highly recommended.

Any idea compare with APR stage 1? How many kW did you gain and cost of the remap, thanks.

Gained 40kw midrange, 30kw peak at all 4 wheels. Cost $950 including before and after dyno.

Not too shabby! What about torque gains? Better fuel economy too I would assume, have noticed my new Tiggy likes a drink compared to my old tuned Mk6 GTI.

                How's the drive?

Are you able to post up the before/after dyno? 30-40kwaw is a decent gain - that's around 40-60kw at the flywheel which makes your Tig a 205TSI

Drive is great, very linear power delivery, torque peaks at 400nm (atw), gradual slope to 300 at 5000 rpm.
Economy is good, averaged 7.2 on a 1500 km round trip to Taree including battling holiday traffic through Brisbane and Woodburn.

                    • That sounds great!

After our first highway drive yesterday the Mrs (not a car person) said "it doesn't accelerate like the old Golf when rolling, can you get a tune for this to fix that?"

I've taken that comment as permission to do it at my leisure

                      • Interested to see some dyno figures as getting my 162 at the end of the month and want to do the stage 1 tune after 5000km.

                          Great first post Tons!

I've been told that the reason for VW Aust releasing the Adventure last year was they couldn't get the engines for the 162TSI Highline allocated to our market - which wouldn't have been an issue if it was just a differently tuned 132TSI.

If they want to improve the fuel efficiency in Aust, ditch the auto start/stop feature (not suited to keeping A/C's running in our hot weather) and take a leaf from the 110TSI and drop pots 2&3. I vaguely recall from years ago that some Aussie v8's dropped 4 cylinders when cruising!

I am puzzled how that is going to improve fuel economy.

You're missing the rest of my quote where I suggested an alternate option to improve fuel economy when stopped:
                              1) auto start/stop (I'd expect most people will disable to keep the A/C running, hence no increase in fuel economy)
                              2) not supplying fuel to 2 of the 4 cylinders as per the Trendline (expect the biggest load on the engine when stopped would be the A/C unit)

The AC in my car has no operational problems in hot weather with stop/go activated. if the weather is very hot or the battery voltage drops too low the stop/go is either not activated or the car re-starts as needed.
