I wish there was a fair dinkum review on different methods of tuning, with genuine dyno results.
Plenty of people have tuned gen1 Tigs with good results. If you were looking to go down the tuning box route I'd only look at JB1/JB4 as these are relatively low cost and have proven gains.

However having said that about the ONLY reason to install a tuning box is because you want to maintain your warranty. With a 4 year old car that really isn't an issue so I would go and get a proper ECU tune.

Gains from a decent tuning box is generally only about 50% what you get from a good ECU tune. So bang for buck you're better off going for the full tune.

I have installed JB1 rev2 on map1 setting on our 162TSI. Has been 3 days now with no issues, toke me like 10 minutes to install.
Have experience with this amazing product as I had JB1 on S3, same install and setup minus one less plug on rev2.

I have the cable which I can play with map1 and map6, but for now very happy with the gains and has waken up the car nicely in all modes.

Awesome, keep us updated with your ongoing experience (ie. if you end up doing a dyno, changing modes etc)

Just ordered a RaceChip Pro 2 from Germany for $400 delivered. This is for 2013 132tsi Pacific .
There is an uphill stretch of road that I will do a test run on in 5th gear. ie before and after fitment of chip. According to advertising I'm going to get 25% increase in hp and torque----For 400 bucks ?? Stay tuned.

I'm interested to know how a JB4 would go on a 162tsi Tiguan. An extra 40 odd hp on an all wheel drive should make it a pretty fun car to drive

Did you have to remove any engine covers / trays to get to all the plugs ?

How much extra hp does map1 give you ?

                  * Engine cover removed -2secs to remove
                  * Under tray cover removed -2 to 4min to remove (about 8 torx screws?)
                  * Install 3 plugs - plug D underneath taking about 2 to 4min, the other 2 plugs take 1-2min
*JB1 Module kept in battery side location on intake hose side
*HP figures on there website which are accurate from experience on my S3, GOLFMK7 forum, dyno sheets, YouTube, logging, qtr mile times from various owners....etc
*BM JB1/JB4 proven many times over on BMW/VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat forums all around the world...thumbs up to a great product and value and ease of install, removal, settings, tuning, logging etc....

So when are you upgrading next and is a Tig on the shopping list?

Would love to se a Tig or 2 out at Happy Laps...
                    Still here Tigger

My V8 Mustang is 2 weeks away from being delivered Can I take it to Happy Laps?

Not selling the Amarok, love the 14s quarter mile full size dual cab too much for that ..... Stg 2 still on the cards now that is (just) out of warranty. Although the mod parts for the Mustang is piling up in my garage as we speak.

Unlikely to buy the new Tig now that I've seen a few in the flesh, its almost Touareg in size and shape .... A Macan will probably be my next SUV now. Unless the heads-up display gets included in the Tig and suitable discounts make it more attractive.

Well---it arrived today complete with German instructions. The English booklet was for a TDI common rail diesel. Not to worry because I had researched the fitment pretty well and really had no bother plugging it in. I have tucked it away in a secure spot without even having to cable tie the tuning box down.
Will admit to being a little nervous when first starting engine, but all was good. No warning lights, no different sounds, all ok. Phew!

Now the important bit. The other day I went to my favourite uphill test strip. In 4th gear , went through starting marker at 60kmh and floored it. Came out at finishing marker at exactly 150kmh.
Today, with Racechip pro 2 fitted, did the identical run, starting at 60kmh in 4th, flooring it , came out the other end at 156kmh. Did it again just to be sure.
I have no idea what percentage improvement there's been, but it feels substantial.
So there you go, despite extreme scepticism this thing actually works!!

I seem to remember people getting a little frustrated by certain cars that had decent performance in a straight line but handled/were driven like on egg shells around the corners. They would blast down the straight and not allow anybody past and then trundle around the rest of the track in the "no overtaking" areas with a line of cars trailing behind them.

This is one of those rare petrol Amaroks. Is Guy still able to help you with stage 2 software?

Yes I seem to think that VW has got the packaging/pricing for the Tiguan a little out of whack. I'd be interested to see the sales figures by model/options and compare what their predicted numbers.

Although the forums obviously cater for the enthusiast, there seems to be a massive amount of interest in the 162TSI R-line and not so much in any other of the models in the line-up.

And that is after VW saying that the 132TSI was going to be the large volume seller. I'd still like to get a 132TSI and tune it.

ARE there any reasonS why the tuning or chipping of series 2 132 TSI, should be any different to the last model?

No, but I had the option to cancel/change my order after. Looked at the result closely and decided to keep my order going.

If you have a look at the test results (tested under a new test regime) you will see that the failure to include AEB and lane assist automatically resulted in a 2 star rating for that area which then automatically resulted in an overall 2 star rating. Had it been tested 6 months earlier the same car would have had a 4, possibly even a 5.

I frankly could not be bothered by the absence of either of those as no other car I currently own has them either ..... when I get really old and I can't brake by myself or keep to my lane, I may see the need for it ..... Disappointing that such hype was put on this when my Amarok without any of those has 5 stars .......

New engine in the Gen 2 Tiguans (the same as the MK7 GTI as discussed already) compared to the Gen 1, so gen 1 tuning wont work on the gen 2.

Since there is apparently no difference between the 132 and the 162, I'd expect that they will tune to the same point (~230kw) so as tigger said, the 132 will be best bang for your buck performance wise, although it misses out on some luxury goodies ....
