    • I ordered mine through Tracy O'Brien (0418 845 227) at Duttons Adelaide Hills. She gave me the best price ($54,500 for 162TSI, White, R-line & DAP drive away) which was even lower than the one obtained by the car broker. Tracy was upfront and honest throughout with regards to how soon she could get a car, whether she would be able to swap cars with other dealers who had unallocated vehicles arriving over the next few months. This is not what I could say about a number of other sales consultants I've dealt (and I dealt with a few across Australia) with whilst trying to secure a Tiguan.

Deborah Shawyer at Southern Volkswagen was also good to deal with, she had the 2nd lowest price for me so I didn't end up going with her.

Christopher David (1300 922 022) from National Car Brokers was good to deal with even though I didn't end up ordering through him. He's also honest and up front about the run around you might get from sales consultants who are placing orders in excess of their dealership's allocation.

I've just gone through the process of buying a Toyota Corolla for my father-in-law and if I had a bit more time on my side, I would have used Christopher David to help me. It just takes out a lot of the running around (well phoning around, back and forth) between the different dealers.

The benefit of using a Car Broker is they are able to get you access to fleet prices on the cars and dealer delivery which is useful if you are not eligible for Corporate/Government/Fleet discounts. In addition to that, because car brokers buy so many cars from dealers, the dealers are less likely to mess with car broker's orders as it would result in lost business down the track.

      Good luck!

I'll PM everyone I've consulted for their prices to see if they're happy for me to post up my excel spreadsheet. Once everyone gives me the go ahead, I'll post up the details of my research.

Never thought of the broker option, would be good to see your finding. I have two business days left to change my mind with my original dealer, my fault for rushing I to it.

              • Doncaster didn't know exactly know at the time, they said could be as early as May but could be as late as September. They did ad a clause in the contract if it didn't arrive by September then my money back. Factory is overloaded apparently.

if I make a new order I'm wondering if I should go the sunroof option, can anyone talk me out of that. I had one in my scirocco don't think I used it much. But does kind of look cool

                • Have decided not to go ahead on a better deal but I did manage to get first service free at Doncaster after my leaving threat. Spoke to a few other dealers today and as I could of got a little better deal with them it did not make it viable to cancel my current contract as I would loose more then half my deposit in the process. Interesting thing is all the dealers said 57k is a impossible price guess things have changed since some of you have signed the bottom line, on the other hand Brighton did not deny I couldn't get it for 57k but they would not confirm it either and with the loss of my deposit a $600 saving is not really worth the effort. Wish I did my research sooner but lesson learnt.

                    • As with all these things timing is everything. If the dealer needs to shift units and make sales budgets/quotas then they will be more motivated to give you a price you can't refuse.

If they have already made their monthly budget or sold their allocated quota then they'll be trying to maximize the profit out of any further sales.

I'm sure you'll be able to get some dealer to come to the party. It's just how far you're prepared to travel and how many calls you want to make.

You got a good deal but maybe not the best deal.

Don't worry about it. I previously got a Golf R for about 11% off, and had a contract for a GTI for 16.5% off. Solid deals which I know can be had. This was during a time when the MK6 had just been made car of the year mid-2010 and there was approximately 8-10mth waits.

This time I only got 8% off. I couldn't be bothered haggling and going to 100 different dealers and all the rest of it.

As long as the car turns out good without any issues, I'm happy.

                        • This thread has taught me re: contacting broker to buy new vehicle. Will do so on my next family SUV

now ... my 162tsi habanero has been collected and is now back home with me at my garage. colour wise its not too bad as initially I thought it was gonna be horrible to see.

Drive home was smooth. BIG change compared to my STI. comfort level is way above my prev car. I am glad that my decision to not get the adaptive dampener on RLine add-on did not make big difference since I am coming from a super stiff suspension/hard like the ones in the WRX STI.

overall i am very happy with everything on this Tig. The ability to go in and out of the car hands free is amazing. also opening the back door without pushing any button. I will probably pop up here and there on a thread here if there is an issue with the car. (I hope it is going to be a reliable friend for me for the next few years)

Now to get the tinting done .... anyone got any recommendation on good window tinting?

Last one i used was ground zero tinting but that was 4-5 years ago. not sure if they are still around.

Don't rely just on the broker, where they may offer a better initial price the overall deal may not the the best for you. You should still do your own research with dealers to see what you can achieve, as with not going to just the one dealer.
May just be me but spending up to $60,000 on something I like to do my homework so the more tools available to provide the information the better (now I am not calling brokers "tools")

I agree that it is all to do with timing. This will also affect the prices tendered to car brokers when they put out your tender to all the dealers.

As per this podcast (Hard Bargain: How to save money on your car (and also prevent nuclear apocalypse)) I used game theory to try and get the best price.

My excel worksheet link here includes most of the responses from the dealers (including stock levels, estimated delivery dates, price)

I think I was extremely fortunate timing-wise to get the deal that I received. I think from here on it would be difficult for any dealer/broker to do much of a deal when limited stock is in such high demand.

Originally I requested for cars coming soon after March as my Corporate discount would activate early March.
After seeing a few members on the forum getting cars with R-line packages for less than $4000 more than the prices I was given for a car without, I decided that it was worthwhile to wait a little longer for a car with R-line pack.
Dealers with cars available now/very soon were quoting $61-62 drive away (a $6000+ premium on my best offered price) which I was not keen on paying.

In the end I bought my father-in-laws car a year earlier and will be driving that in the meantime allowing me to wait for delivery of the Tiguan.
