    • I've clarified the factory extended warranty is in fact 2k. I'm definitely getting it as I'm planning on keeping the car for 5 years and don't want to worry about having a car out of warranty.

You don't have to buy the extended warranty up front, you just have to purchase it prior to the factory 3 year warranty expires. I'm going to wait and see how my 162TSI performs when I get it. If the performance falls short then I might go for a tune, in which case there's no point extending the warranty. If I'm satisfied enough then I'll probably extend it.

Some initial observations after about 70 km of driving through the Yarra Valley: the lane assist is amazing! - where there are lane markings both in the centre and on the edge of the road, the lane assist subtly keeps the car between the lines.
Coming from a Golf GTI Performance, the ride in the Tiguan is much better, zero wind noise and the handling for a 1650kg SUV is really good. The 162 is really punchy for a brand new engine with only 100km on the clock. The DSG 7 speed works really well - dropping it back to S really sharpens response without hanging on to high revs as the Golf GTI seemed to do. Turbo lag? - didn't notice any as acceleration from a standing start was really sharp.
To those who are waiting for their 162's to turn up - the wait will be worth it.
More feedback later next week after a few longer day trips.
          Hi Heffmeister,
Congrats on your purchase. So far been trying out the car when I get a chance, only managed to do about 190km on it though. Found a lot of stuff that i read about but is a lot better in real life (some useful some just "cute) for example the light strips in the doors and front door sills, the LED headlights are really great (though only used it in urban and semi-rural so far), area view had been quite useful and ACC has been fun to test think it will be quite useful on the longer drives.

The car drives quite well, effortlessly gets to speed and the cabin is very well insulated can barely hear the engine at all until you lower the windows, then you get to hear the lovely engine growl. The ride is extremely comfortable was concerned that the 20's would give the ride a harsher feel but so far I haven't noted it much. The stop/start in the 162 has been fairly good, almost adds no lag to the takeoff (though it is new so will wait and see). The acceleration is nice but coming from a GTD I do notice the missing torque. I was surprised by how much different the driving mode changes the car, it could be my imagination but I believe it felt like it changes the driving dynamics more on the 162 then on the 132.

All in all haven't had it for long and coming from the GTD i have to adjust to the new car but I'm over all very happy with it. Its a lovely all over package and I love the detail put into the night time interior packaging it just adds to the pleasure of driving it.

First "long" trip is looking to be mid Jan so will be interested to see what its like for that drive to Sydney.

So far the wife and kids like it so looks like I'll get to keep it
Now just have to sell the old car to keep her happy

It has to go back in to the dealership to get the accessories they didn't have in stock fitted and the tinting done.

I've received conflicting information. Every dealer, bar one, that I've spoken to say you can't extend the factory warranty if you didn't purchase it when purchasing the car. The other dealer told me that you can get an extra 2 years factory warranty ($1500 each year) but it just needs to be bought prior to the end of the 3 year factory warranty ending.

So what have other people been quoted for extended warranty when getting it just before their 3 years is up? Is it factory or "aftermarket" through one of the other big insurance companies?

                    • I spoke to the dealership today and they told me that my car is now due in April instead of May. Apparently the dates in the NADCON system bounce around a bit so you just need to keep checking in with your dealership every couple of weeks until the car is built then you can track it yourself with the VIN they supply.

The story I got from my dealer was that the manufacturer extended warranty is only available prior to purchase ($2000) but that you can purchase an extended warranty afterwards for a bit more.

The difference is that the one purchased with the vehicle sale is an extension of the manufacturer warranty (from 3 to 5 years) whereas the one purchased later is provided by Allianz, not vw.

To me that's a pretty big difference and I'm not really sure if there's a difference in what's covered and what isn't but find it hard to believe there isn't one.

                          • Interesting on the warranty stuff. The dealer I spoke to just told me that if I wasn't sure about paying for the warranty up front, then I could always add it later. If adding it later means it's via a third-party then I agree that it's very different and I probably wouldn't go down that path. So, I'd probably want to test drive a 162TSI and then decide whether I'll pay for the warranty up front for my car. I'm planning on keeping the Tig for at least 5 years, if not more.

The length of warranty is an are where VW are falling short these days, in a market where 4, 5, and 7 year warranties are becoming more common.

Can you detail the tow bar fitment? Is it neat and professionally finished? Any pics please?

I purchased the Allianz extended insurance for my MK6 GTI, had no problems with them - when it came time to make a claim VW would fix the car and then claim Allianz on my behalf. Shop around though, I paid 1600 when other dealerships were offering 1800 to 1900 for the same thing.
