  • I have ordered/received my New Tiguan

Now that we are pretty much through the initial rush of orders, I wonder if a good negotiating opportunity might be just before the new year, given monthly/yearly sales targets would surely come into play. Does anyone have any first hand experience with negotiation timing?

Have a go son! My philosophy is it's always a good time for a deal. I got my Golf r at launch a great price. Had initially negotiated a GTI with a good price also. Best of luck!

      • Hi Folks, being a repeat customer has paid off big time for me - placed an order for an R Line 162TSI +DAP in mid Sept and was advised of a late Jan/early Feb 2017 delivery. Turns out that the dealer had a small initial allocation of R Line 162's for demo purposes, and one of those was identical to my order so he said that it's better off in a good home rather than on the showroom floor. Well, that car turned up at the dealer today and I may well be driving it this Friday. The dealer has played Santa really well! Will be an interesting comparison to the outgoing GTI Performance.

          • Yes, lucky with this one! With each new car I do a couple of long day trips - one being down the Great Ocean Road to Apollo Bay and then back through the Otways to Melbourne. The other one is up to Mansfield and then on to Whitfield and then down through the King Valley and on to Beechworth . Hope to give some feedback later next week!

                • I have ordered/received my New Tiguan

So today I took the R Line TSI 162 for a test run. I can confirm that the exhaust at the back are not the same as the TDI. The driving experience compared to the TSI 132, well what can I say it's got a lot more meat behind it however I wouldn't go a far as to say it drives or performs like the Golf GTI (shares same engine) but needless to say that's for obvious reasons. I was impressed but not super impress with the power. I really did hope it would put a smile on my face in terms of some serious differences over the 132kW but I honestly didn't feel it. I did push it but I had a salesmen with me. All and all it's nice and would go this over the TDI 110%. I'm going to ask for a 24hr test drive as this is what really sets the deal for me.

                  Pros:
It drives like a hovercraft with real good steering and handling and that's for an SUV. Sticks to the ground well too. I was impressed.
Interior, all the same as the normal TDI R line.
Exterior, back looks a lot better with the trapezium exhausts.
Got more HP in the early revs over the TDI, and sounds nicer. No fakey noises though.

                  Cons:
I can't feel the 162kW in my opinion. It's there but it's not like like I can feel the 30kW difference on top of the 132kW. It wasn't a massive difference even in sports or manual mode.
They don't offer the 132kW TSI with R Line. I would opt for this over the 162kW and just get a tune.
Still and this is with the TDI, no sunglasses compartment when you order sunroof.... this frustrates me and maybe only me Then without a sunroof you get these un-necessary massive compartments for every man and his dog to put their sunglasses...wtf!

Here are some pics of the exhausts.

Could it be because the R line is heavier ? Bigger rims (20s) will certainly make it laggier than a car with 17s (132TSI).

I think the highline is a the goods ! Ps I agree with you on the sunroof, we ordered one and had to get a sunroof so we could get our asap. Wish we didn't have to and you would think in this day and age we could just order what we want.

In other news - my dealer just low balled the hell out of our trade in.

I mean our car is in good nick, and he offered less than half value of red book. Back to hating dealers.

                    • Managed to get myself an early Christmas present. My 162 Rline showed up yesterday and was ready for delivery today (minus the tow bar). So far only had it since 1630hrs and only driven it about 60 kms. Looking forward to spending more time in it.

                      • Same as you Beowulf, my 162 RLine+DAP turned up this afternoon. Some initial observations after about 70 km of driving through the Yarra Valley: the lane assist is amazing! - where there are lane markings both in the centre and on the edge of the road, the lane assist subtly keeps the car between the lines.
Coming from a Golf GTI Performance, the ride in the Tiguan is much better, zero wind noise and the handling for a 1650kg SUV is really good. The 162 is really punchy for a brand new engine with only 100km on the clock. The DSG 7 speed works really well - dropping it back to S really sharpens response without hanging on to high revs as the Golf GTI seemed to do. Turbo lag? - didn't notice any as acceleration from a standing start was really sharp.
To those who are waiting for their 162's to turn up - the wait will be worth it.
More feedback later next week after a few longer day trips.

Wow... that's a great first impression Whar color did you get? Curious to know how hard the ride is on those low profile 20"s. And you coming from a GTI speaks volumes to me about the engine performance.. all those little doubts I had because we couldn't test drive are slowly disappearing...please keep the insights coming from yourself and all the other new R Line owners.... Merry Christmas!!

                              • Whew! I also will be letting our Mk 7 GTI go with quite a bit of regret. If the Tiguan motor is as sharp as the GTI, wow.
