    • Yeah, was said in jest . Just can't wait to get it. I drove from Sydney to the sunshine coast yesterday and I really could have done with the ACC!

Hey Gladbach how was the road up there? I am doing the trip in the week and was just trying to gauge the conditions along the Pacific.

ALL cars in the entire Volkswagen concern are built in MODEL YEAR series, that already start before the end of each year. The number of your car specifies it as a 2016 or 2017 model year car, having different qualities (sometimes only details). An early 2016 production car therefor is different from a late 2016 car.
So, you have three dates: the MODEL YEAR, the PRODUCTION year, and the REGISTRATION year.
What matters is what you CHOOSE to matter. Car dealers choose what matters to them...

True. However. Cars being delivered now are 2016 build MY17 cars. The 2016 build date will mean a small decrease in trade in value when compared to MY17 2017 build cars in the years to come.

Don't believe me, pick a car, any car. Check it's valuation in the Carsales app for a car built in its model year verses one built in the year before. Same MY, different build year. The earlier build car will generally be valued less.

They are, for all intents and purposes the same car. It's just buyer perception which affects its value come trade in time. It could only be a month difference in build year but thems the facts.

This is the reason you'll soon see runout sales from the dealers of their stock built in 2016. The deeper we go into 2017, the less these vehicles are worth. Even though they identical, in every respect, to cars that are being built and they are still taking delivery of.

Does it affect the ownership of your car though? Not one bit.

                • The advantage of receiving your car 6 months earlier is just that. You have the enjoyment of using the car for that period before others can even feel the joy of ownership. That always comes at a cost. Later face-lifts gain small advantages that would have been nice to have at the model launch but was not thought of or considered for a later release only. If you waited for the ideal version of that model you would have bought the runout gen 1 Tiguan but you saw the general 2 Tiguan as being much better. Just like the rest of us. Happy and safe motoring to all.

nope. not getting to receive nor drive my 2016 build MY17 car before early march.

taking consolation on the belief that it could be a car that we would really enjoy and be are happy to keep for a longer period so that the lower resell value (compared to a 2017 built) becomes negligible.

                    • We all suffer varying delays when a car is built overseas. In my case I have been told not to expect my Tiguan before mid May 2017. All I can do is try to be patient. If I don't like it I can always go elsewhere. I choose not to because I believe this Tiguan is the best value car in Australia when you include all the features that come with it.

                      • A new 2017 car refers to its first registration (first use) being in the year 2017, not to its production year.

Ah, no, you're wrong there. There are two factors only. The model year, denoted by the MY and available from late the year before. This denotes when the physical changes are made to the model line. And the build date located on the compliance plate and, in some cases, a separate decal, usually on the door pillar.

The first registration date is not recorded anywhere and is completely irrelevant.

OK, it's different in Australia then, sorry for the misunderstanding... In New Zealand a car's year refers to its year of first new registration, just as it does in Europe (where my father had several car dealerships)...

Ok. Didn't realise you're in NZ. You may be right for your market. Doesn't apply to Oz.
