I have ordered/received my New Tiguan

Got an email from my dealer today saying that they received an email from VW Australia stating that all 162TSI highlines have been pushed back to May 2017 delivery. I ordered the car in July...

That's crazy. I don't know how the system works but I ordered my 162TSI in Sept, it was built in Oct, got my VIN, and is now on a ship due in NSW on 27th Dec. I'd be pissed if I was you.

I'll bet something else is at play here.

Like, dealer just realised he cocked up the order. Has to reorder correct vehicle, then lies to original customer about the reason for the delay.

Or he's sold your vehicle to someone else.

Really fishy, as it is the same commission number just all the dates have changed.

No VIN yet - I will chase this up on Monday when I fly back into the country - will keep everyone informed.

this comment doesn't explain an individual delay like the one detailed here for hcvo1 but I've seen comments in the media that there are close to 1,100 Tiguan 162's on back order with VW Australia. Clearly some are being produced and shipped against that number as there are some arrivals confirmed in late december and again in January but from what I can see those arrivals won't put any more than a 10% dent in the back orders. If the level of demand for the 162 was misjudged then its probably not unreasonable to see increasingly long delays in delivery time. Won't be the first time it's happened for an in demand VW product.

I asked my dealer if he could give me a VIN, he said its not on the system yet... He gave me a comm? (his word) number... is that good for anything?...cheers

So I went into the dealership today and asked them what was going on. The sales manager simply stated that there was a delay on all 162TSI and that to the best of his knowledge there was no 162s coming into the county and that May 2017 was the earliest delivery date. I told him about this forum and that people were getting their 162s in January and February and to that he had no response.

Not satisfied I rang up VW Australia and they gave me the same response saying that there was a delay for our region, and that he would speak to the sales manager at my dealership. They then put me back on the phone to him. Back to square one!

Not happy with the dealership or VW Australia at the moment.

If it is indeed as bad as you describe it then I am going to be extremely pissed off and will be letting VW Australia and the dealer know about it. In all honesty, I would be making a very strong case to renegotiate the sale price or for them to add a service plan or extended warranty or something. Waiting 10 months for a car is ridiculous, and not something that I signed up for.

The whole launch of the Tiguan in Australia has been poor, with VW Australia failing to provide the dealers with the correct information, having little to no information for customers after the vehicle was officially launched, still not having full details on the 162TSI, on-top of a strange and confusing launch where customers were invited to view the vehicle but not drive it, with the official launch dates being shifted at the last minute (i.e. the date that the test drives were made available).

Be patient, I would recommend that we should wait until end of January to see if ETA met or not, then we will begin our work with VW. In this case , not the dealer fault at all.

As stated in one of my earlier posts. I got a printout from their online system stating that my car would be in Melbourne in the 22nd February. It has now been pushed to 8th May. The dealer had been slack in communicating this with me and I have to chase them up at the beginning of each month when they promised they would email me on the 1st of each month.

How can that be? A lot of us, including myself have received confirmation that the cars have been built and a VIN's have been received- if these cars are built then why would it take another 6 months to delivery? I really would like to know what's going on here

Never got a VIN, just a commission number. The contract for my car was signed in July and ordered by the dealership in September. They told me this is when the system was opened up to order a 162TSI. Not happy, with another baby due in March, I needed a bigger car.

I got a call from the dealer today and he said that they are expecting them in Jan. He did say there was a delay but I guess it all depends on when people ordered. I had mine around August.

I'll have to take this further then, I signed contracts in July and it was ordered in September. Did you order an R-Line?
