  • The wife already has a silver SUV so I thought I would stay away from that colour and the black I thought would take away from all the black accents on the R-Line (plus I have had a black Mazda 3 before and was a pain to keep clean). Always liked white cars but never owned one so that was a safe bet since had already seen it in that colour.

I heard that the current Tiguan actually handles better than the equivalent MK6 Golf as it has better weight distribution so hoping this is the case with the new Tiguan against the MK7 Golf. Also nice that the R-Line has the same 162kw engine from the GTI, means it can easily be upgraded to 200kw+ with just an ECU flash... Makes for a quick SUV.

Tristram European here in NZ had it in their showroom for a day and got me to come in and have a look at it but couldn't take it for a drive.

They look really awesome in the flesh and those 20" rims are amazing. The Active display is really cool and nice that you can customise it to suit your preferences. The driver profiles settings will be really handy, can have all the seats and mirrors and suspensions setup separate for the wife when she drives it.

From memory it has the dual exhaust on the left hand side and not the fake outlets but since it wasn't the proper 162TSI this might be different.

The park assist is a full 4 camera setup so you can see everything around you, you can tap on each 4 sides of the car on the display to get a better view.

I have a 162TSI R Line in White on order which is due to arrive the week of Christmas (great Xmas present). They are going to trade in my current MK6 Golf R and have agreed on a change over price already and I can keep driving the R until the Tiguan arrives. The agreement is also subject to me viewing and taking the Tiguan for a drive so if I don't like the way it drives/feels then I don't have to go through with the purchase.

Tristram European are having a launch party at their dealership for the new Tiguan R Line on the 31st of August so should have that car back there again for me to have another look at again and I'll try and get photos.

Have you actually had confirmation that your R Line is being delivered in December. If this is so then mine should be on the same ship?
I saw in another post that Aust is only getting their R lines in April/May 2017

Yes, hence the reason I walked away with a decent quote on a new Polo GTI ..... it will fill the gap perfectly while we wait for the Tiguan to become available with 7 seats.

According to Tristram European (and I am dealing with the Operations Manager so I assume she knows what she is talking about) the first shipment of R-Lines is due in the week of Christmas. Apparently the dealers only had 1 day to place orders so Tristram ordered extra over what they had already pre-sold (not sure if other dealers did as well) which allowed me to order one after and still have it arrive on the first shipment. Before ordering from Tristram I was in at Continental Cars looking at one of the current Tiguans at the sales rep there said the first shipment of new ones had sold out so wouldn't be able to get one until early next year, not sure if he didn't think I was too serious in looking at the new one as I was driving a crappy old basic Golf as a curtesy car while mine was getting fixed.

I am pretty sure the ETA of December would be right (will remain to be seen which side of Christmas it arrives and is ready) as they have given me an agreed trade in price for my current car which I can still keep driving until then. Surely they wouldn't want me using for another 3-4 months on top of the 5 months they have already agreed on, all those extra kms would only continue to decrease the trade-ins value.

7 seat option is coming, but only 18-24 months' time
I just spoke to my dealer and spoke to the salesman who sold me the car. He then had a quick chat to the stock controller and told me that the cars should be ok to order in a few weeks - what they are waiting on is compliance on the anchor points for the 162TSI. They are still hopeful for a December/January delivery for the 162TSI R-Line.

On a different note, he also confirmed that the comfortline will be on display from mid next week at the dealership.

It is a UK site so not sure if all colours are available in Aus/NZ.

This Italian review of the R-line has a nice walk-around of the Indium Grey Metallic. Looks very classy with the 20" Suzuka wheels.

                    • Hey guy's, I have a question regarding the Active Info Display. All the online videos that I have watched have shown the Active Info Display
with Red/Orange Tacho & Speedo needles. If you watch this video below on this particular R Line's AID, which was the vehicle VW NZ used to go round all the dealerships recently has white Tacho/Speedo needles. Does this mean that the colour can be changed somewhere in the vehicle settings? Video link below

Not sure, if you look at the Italian review above at the start it shows the AID with white needles as well. Obviously since it is a LCD display it can be easily customised so it is possible the R-Line has it programed in the white (to make it look sportier) and the standard models have it programmed in the orange.

What I am curious about is whether the NZ versions of the Discover Pro 8" coming in the Tiguans have the DAB radio.

                        • I have a Discover Pro 8" on my current Golf and it does not have DAB but I believe it has been updated since then, so maybe the new Tiguan will have this. Regarding the white Tacho & Speedo needles I stopped by the dealer this afternoon and there was a black fwd Tiguan with the exact same Active Info Display in white. The salesman is going to send an email to VW NZ on Monday to see if he can get an answer to my question

                          • Interesting. Do you know if that Tiguan was a Highline or Comfortline? Could be the Comfortline has the orange and the Highline (which the R-Line is built on as in Europe it is an option pack) has the White??

                            • It was a Highline 2WD which has the Active Info Display as an optional extra here in NZ. Rechecked Video's on You Tube and they all had Orange needles (highline models) with exception to the Italian review that you pointed out to me. So really is a mystery as far as I am concerned.

                              • It is all very confusing with the different VW models in the different countries. Looking at the models available in Aus the only 2WD options is in their Trendline and their Highlines are all 4WD yet we don't have a Trendline. Plus they get a manual option in the 2WD Trendline that we don't have at all.

The R-Line reviews I quickly looked back at on You Tube all seemed to show white needles on them.
