  • Ive done the same. Ive found out enough about the new Tiguan, loads of research and decided that if I want a car this side of Xmas I needed to act now.

I'm without a decent car now, so making that decision was a no brainer. The exact specs cant be too different from what we can see already.

I'm with you on that, that's for sure. Time will tell. I needed to spec the towbar with the order, so I rolled the dice and take my chances.

      • This is what I know from having seen and sat in one of the new "R Lines", I say it like that because it wasn't the 162TSI that we are getting here in NZ but one that had all the R Line interior and exterior kit so it looked exactly like an R Line was just missing the HUD.

Tristram European here in NZ had it in their showroom for a day and got me to come in and have a look at it but couldn't take it for a drive.

They look really awesome in the flesh and those 20" rims are amazing. The Active display is really cool and nice that you can customise it to suit your preferences. The driver profiles settings will be really handy, can have all the seats and mirrors and suspensions setup separate for the wife when she drives it.

From memory it has the dual exhaust on the left hand side and not the fake outlets but since it wasn't the proper 162TSI this might be different.

The park assist is a full 4 camera setup so you can see everything around you, you can tap on each 4 sides of the car on the display to get a better view.

I have a 162TSI R Line in White on order which is due to arrive the week of Christmas (great Xmas present). They are going to trade in my current MK6 Golf R and have agreed on a change over price already and I can keep driving the R until the Tiguan arrives. The agreement is also subject to me viewing and taking the Tiguan for a drive so if I don't like the way it drives/feels then I don't have to go through with the purchase.

Tristram European are having a launch party at their dealership for the new Tiguan R Line on the 31st of August so should have that car back there again for me to have another look at again and I'll try and get photos.

Kudos to VW New Zealand for the "R-Line Tiguan Tour" where they brought in an early R-Line and each dealership in NZ got to have it for a day to bring in potential customers and spark interest.

By comparison, VW Aus put a few pictures on their Facebook of a mid-spec model with some narrative ("Look what just arrived at HQ")

Wonder when Australia will see the first R-Line Tiguan on the ground? Perhaps VW NZ can lend VW Aus theirs once they're finished with it?

Cheers GolfR79 I appreciate your stance on pre ordering, Im sure it will be fanatstic, Im just a little hesitant, I really want to see one first and sit it, drive it etc etc.... yep Ill probably be the guy taking delivery of mine this time next year!!

Yeah, I always thought NZ poor cousin to AUS but definitely not when it comes to cars, you guys seem to miss out on a lot of things we get as standard options here especially on the European cars.

Not sure if them having the car for the day was public knowledge, I just happened to be in the dealership the week before (my Golf R was getting the Haldex replaced due to failure) and was chatting to the Operations Manager that originally sold me the Golf R. We got talking about the new Tiguan and she said that if I was in the area on that particular day to call in and have a look. I think the car was bought in mainly for the dealers to look at first then for the launch parties they are running.

I am a bit gutted as to be honest I didn't think they would offer me such a good change over price so didn't think I would actually be looking to get one at this stage, if I had then I would have take pictures of it when I was there. By the time they gave me the price they didn't have the car there anymore.

Not sure, will see if I can find out. I have a Pure White one on order as that was the only white option available in the first shipment coming in otherwise wouldn't get one until next year.

                    • I'm pretty sure it's the pure white which is the colour used in most of the marketing brochures/commercials. The Oryx White is metallic and doesn't photograph as well as the flat colours.

They only make the R-line in limited colour combinations - pure white, titanium beige, tungsten silver, atlantic blue, nutmeg, indium grey, deep black, oryx white. These are the colours in the UK that are available with R-line kit.

Though in Oz we only get R-line in pure white, tungsten silver, indium grey and deep black. So if you want white you have a single choice - not a bad choice but certainly not as many colour options as overseas.

This is a Pure White R Line as I was one of the lucky few to have driven and seen the vehicle at one of the daily previews here in NZ.
All I can say is that I was "blown away" by the features on the vehicle. I was even more impressed when I drove it and even though it only had the 132 KW engine, it still had a lot of grunt. It was just unfortunate that I could not have taken the vehicle for a longer test drive, however it was enough to convince me to place an order for the 162KW R Line version when I returned to the dealership.
If you want to order an Oryx White Tiguan here in NZ you have to pay a $2000-00 premium!

                        • Lucky bugger, am a bit disappointed I didn't get to take it for a drive (just got to sit in the drivers seat), I realise the performance wouldn't be there but would have been good to see what the ride felt like. Which dealership were you at?

Glad that was the Pure White, looked really good and that is what I have ordered. Pity about the limited colour choices available and really hard to pick a colour without see it. Was tossing up between the White and Grey, what did you go with? My current Golf is the Rising Blue and would have liked to stick with something similar but the blue that is available looked quite dark from the limited pictures I could find.

                          • I was disappointed I couldn't take it for a longer drive, but there were customers waiting to view the vehicle back at the dealership. As for the ride, it was superb and not unlike the Golf so I was really happy with that. In a nutshell I suppose you could call the new Tig an oversized Golf, the interior certainly looks like the Golf. I stuck with the Tungsten Silver Metallic which is the color of my current Golf. I find it a practical color which is a lot easier to keep clean as well.
