  • Stage 1 on the 132/162TSI will take you to 235kW and stage2 to 250kW.

If you go stage 3 and upgrade the turbo to Golf R spec then you can get 280+kW.

Of course the big advantage over the GTI is you have AWD/traction. The other plus is the DQ500 DSG in the Tig is a heavier duty DSG and so can take the extra torque a lot better than either GTI or R.

    • The new Tigaun is an all-new model, based on VW Group’s MQB platform. It brings larger overall dimensions, providing more cabin space than ever before, while also introducing better driving dynamics for a more enjoyable drive.
As we already know, the new Tiguan will be available with five different engine options in Australia. These span from the 110TSI petrol, 132TSI petrol, to the range-topping 162TSI petrol, with all figures referring to the power output in kilowatts. For the diesel fans there are the 110TDI and 140TDI.
All engines except the entry 110TSI are connected up to a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with selectable driving modes. The 110TSI is front-wheel drive only, helping to provide maximum fuel economy.
Buyers will be presented with various option packages, including the $5000 Luxury Pack that brings Vienna leather, keyless access, a power tailgate, and a big glass sunroof. It also comes with power front seats with heating functions.
There’s also the $2000 Driver Assistance Pack that adds adaptive cruise control, cross-traffic alert, and Area View, while sporty drivers can option for the $4000 R-Line package that adds a distinct bodykit with 20-inch alloy wheels.
The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan officially goes on sale in Australia in September. Prices start from the following (excluding on-road costs):
      2017 Volkswagen Tiguan 110TSI Trendline 6 Speed Manual – $31,990
      2017 Volkswagen Tiguan 110TSI Trendline 6 Speed DSG – $34,490
      2017 Volkswagen Tiguan 110TSI Comfortline 6 Speed DSG – $36,990
      2017 Volkswagen Tiguan 132TSI Comfortline 7 Speed DSG – $41,490
      2017 Volkswagen Tiguan 110TDI Comfortline 7 Speed DSG – $42,990
      2017 Volkswagen Tiguan 162TSI Highline 7 Speed DSG – $48,490
      2017 Volkswagen Tiguan 140TDI Highline 7 Speed DSG – $49,990

Where are these figures coming from? I'm sceptical the 132 TSI can jump straight to 235kw with Stage 1 ECU Upgrade? It's even a big increase for 162 TSI.

Yeah I couldn't agree more those figures are so wrong, stage 2 perhaps but stage 1 you'll probably sittin around 200kw

The 132 and 162 are mechanically identical engines, just with a different tune. Whatever tune you put in the 162 will get the same end result on the 132. The 162 is not capable of more just because it starts with 162kW. Think of the 132 as a detuned 162. Actually that's pretty much exactly what it is. VW are charging us for the privilege of having a better tune on the car from the factory.

I agree Tigger is being slightly generous however according to APRs website, their funds return 220+ at stage 1. As always it changes from car to car.

With extra mods "maybe" but if it's the same engine as a GTi then I can't see it being true. Just look up APR website.

                  • Am I looking at the right page?

I am not ignorant though and agree their results will rarely be seen in the real world. It doesn't change Tigger's point though - the motor in the 132/162 is a weapon and can be tuned up for very big results and very quick Tigs

Also, I just got the email from the dealer regarding the new car. Apparently they'll have cars in the show room come mid-August. Nothing in the rest of the email that we don't already know, although I'm a bit peeved at the dealer's lack of use of the BCC function.

I'm not sure how much you can really trust the US APR site (not sure why they got rid of the AU site) as their claimed "Stock" BHP for the EA888 does not match the AU figures. But Mike Webber at Prestige & Performance quoted me the same figures 235kw / 516Nm which is HUGE. $1430 installed

Both APR and REVO claim around the same for their MK7 GTI stage 1 and stage 2 tunes based on 98 RON fuel.

I'm not making up numbers - check the websites for yourselves:

Revotechnik Stage 1 V, Golf VII, 2.0 TSI

APR 2.0 TSI/TFSI Gen3 ECU Upgrade for the MQB Platform

The major difference between the Mk6 GTI and the Mk7 GTI (in terms of tunability/power output) is the turbo that is used. The Mk7 can make a lot more power. The problem with the Mk7 GTI is getting the power to the ground without spinning the front wheels. Ultimately with a FWD car you're limited to the amount of power you can put to the ground. Hence why starting with an AWD platform is a real advantage.

Real figures probably around 210kw/500nm with stage 1 only. Stage 2 will get you to about 220kw.

Basing this on having been an APR customer for many years and having worked closely with the now defunct APR AU on 2 of my own cars as their AU test beds.

APR was only making 215kw on a identically engined Mk7 Golf GTI so any more is unlikely on the Tig. Still a lot of power for a small SUV ......

And yes, the 132 and 162 are mechanically identical and deliver the same when tuned. My gen 1 Tig 125TSI made 190kw stg1 which is exactly what the last 155TSi is making. It was also the APR Stg2 test mule and made 200 kW with a downpipe and intake.

Bear in mind that other tuners are out there as well, so have a look at Guy (formerly APR AU)'s OEM+ software which complements the VWR hardware he's been selling for years.

                              • Also, I'm not getting into the new TIg early as I am not getting caught (again) in the price gouging that the manufacturers get into early in a new models life. Corporate pricing unlikely to be fully available for at least 6months ....

I'll wait a while and see what happens ... Wife is really keen on the rumoured 7 seat Tig, might get her a new Polo GTI to drive for a year or 2 while we wait 😬
