From what I know the R Line pack will cost $4000 on top over the Highline and if you want sunroof that's an extra $2000 and $2200 for the DAP.

This is only for the Highline model, the comfort line gets a $5000 luxury pack and that's it. However there are other little packs you can get which I don't know of yet. I think this will be the tow-bar option and stuff like that. The R Line also gets a 2 tone leather seating option.

Prices are coming next week and should be around $51k for highline - no options. I've also read that the power delivery on the TDI is kinda crappy, so most people will need at least a stage one. Not sure if I'd go diesel, i'm a bit of a petrol head TBH.

Yes they are building 140TDIs but you can't even spec a build on a 162TSI... so these aren't even in the production queue yet.

The online configurators for the VW Poland and Sweden websites have the 162TSI as an engine option on the highline (Poland) and GT (Sweden) variants.

So fingers-crossed it's not too far off production. Interestingly both those websites don't have any performance information (no fuel/co2 stats for those who care) on the 162TSI last time I checked...

Edit: Checked just now and the VW Poland configurator for a 162TSI Tiguan with 7-speed DSG claims a Przyspieszenie (Acceleration if Google translate is right) of 0-100kmh in 6.5s.

Yes if you want an R-line expect it to be north of $50k as you can only option it on top of the Highline (140TDI or 162 TSI).

Then if you want the ACC and other bits in the driver assistance package you'll be around $55k

I can get a BMW X1 for that money

Sure .....but at least the Tig isn't built in the USA like every BMW X series vehicle and people will not enquire how long you have been in hairdressing.

VW is certainly aiming after some of the lower end "premium" vehicles with the new Tiguan. I think you'll find if you compare the specs, fit and finish plus the drive the new Tig will be a very compelling package.

A lot of the lower end "premium" vehicles are relying on the badge and fancy showroom to sell the car. A base model X1 will be needing quite a few boxes ticked on the options list to bring it up to Tiguan Highline spec... and then you'll be in a different price bracket.

I totally agree, if you like at the Audi Q3/Q5 BMW X1 their entry level trim has some glaring omissions, whilst you're expected to fork on on an equipment pack to gain features other manufactures are offering as standard.

For instance a"no frills" Q3 20.TDI Auto Quatro is $62K on road that's before any equipment packs.

Come on, daycare and shopping centers can have very steep entrances We'll that's my wife's justification to buy a Prado. I told here we're buying something good quality german that looks nice, good bootspace for the future kids pram and is full of comfort tech.

Got a little bored this afternoon so I scratched an itch. I can't help but feel the stock '17 Tig is a better looking car than the R-Line due to the R-line looking too OTT to me. I also may or may not be taking price into consideration

So I mocked this up (it's rough, I know):



Changes:

• Dropped ~1 inch, ever so slightly more at the back to take away the forward lean Tig's seem to have.
• Colour coded skirts, rear and front bumpers.
• Blacked out roof although it would be black with the sunroof anyway.
• Golf R 19" wheels. NFI if they fit or are even appropriate, too lazy to check. I don't think 19's would look that large either, but I based my scaling on the wheels in the stock picture which are 18".

I don't like the after market look. So I want to make changes that looked like it could come from the factory. If I was to go down this path I'd go candy white because it means the skirts and bumpers could probably be wrapped without much fuss and colour differences. I'd also probably take it further and gloss black all the trim, especially on a candy white Tig.

Thoughts?

I always thought the 2 tone trim made the Tiguan look "cheap". The only way to get colour coded plastics now is to spend $55k on an R-line...

My first Tig was black and I plasti-dipped the grey plastics black and that worked fairly well. However your idea to wrap the plastics is even better (and more permanent). The issue with most of the lower trims is that it comes with an orange-peel effect on the plastics instead of being flat/smooth (which is how they would come if they were to be painted).

I did look into painting them, however the crash repairer I spoke to talked me out of it. You either need to paint over the orange peel effect and you end up with a mottled effect on the paint finish or you have to either fill or shave the plastic before painting. Ultimately you're better off buying the part with a flat plastic finish from the factory and painting that.

So removing/wrapping the grey plastics sounds like a good option. I'd definitely look into doing this on a new one.

On the wheels front you really need to be looking at offsets around ET35. Typically your Golf wheels are ET50 and will sit too far in-board. Try looking at Scirocco and there's also quite a few Audi wheels in the right offset for the OEM+ look.

Yeah, like I eluded to it's just a mock-up to get a feel for what these cars could look like. Honestly turned out a bit better than I thought. I'd love to try a white model (it's really hard to colourize to solid white or black) and I can't find any pictures of white '17 Tigs that are not R-Line

The lowering is a lot more than I'd be comfortable doing. Half the reason I want a Tig is comfort getting in and out (I'm 6'2" which isn't huge but I'd still like easier access) plus not having to worry about every bump in the road! The added head height, leg room, boot space, etc is just another bonus.

I've done zero research into what wheel specs are required as you have discovered too haha.

If I do trade my GTI in I think the visual mods I've highlighted are easy to obtain and really do transform the car. The 132 model is looking very appealing. One benefit of the shared platform is that a lot of parts already released for the Golf should work on the new Tiguan...I think?

That shows me how much of a difference a good set of wheels make. The mock-up I did seems a lot more sporty and that's the only real difference I can pick? The angle of the photo might make a small difference as well.

MY17/MQB Platform Tiguan Discussion Thread

Got some inspiration and did the same on an R-Line, with R rims.

OK inside scoop on Tiguan pricing and availability....

Base model 110TSI Trendline manual RRP $32k + on roads

Add $2.5k for a 110TSI Trendline DSG - $34.5k + on roads

The 132TSI Comfortline - $41.5k + on roads

Add $1.5k for the 110TDI Comfortline - $43k + on roads

The Highline models will both be arriving later - 140TDI in Oct/Nov and 162TSI in early 2017 (Jan/Feb).

The 140TDI is the range topper at $50k + on roads and 162TSI is $1.5k cheaper at $48.5k + on roads.

If you load up the 140TDI with R-line, DAP and sunroof you'll be heading north of $60k. Definitely targeting the lower end premium car buyers.

And I think with the size/pricing increase it's positioning the Tiguan to have a little brother sitting underneath it in the range sometime in the future.
