So my 2019 tiguan 162kw rline has come up with brake pads warning sign after driving approx 52k km.
1. The car is out of warranty now, so does anyone have any recommended independent VW service center in Sydney West?
2. Any cost estimate how much will it cost? Not sure if it will need brake rotors replacement or not and if it's both front and rear?
3. Is 52k km average life for brake pad?

Buy a set of pads and do it your self A Jack two jackstands and a couple of hours would do it. Plenty of Youtube videos on how to

To replace brake pads, I cant imagine that it would cost any more than $250-300 including the labour. Chances are that you will also need to change your disks though which will probably double that cost.

How long your brake pads last is a very difficult question to answer, because it depends on how you drive and where you drive. For example, a car driven in a city with lots of stopping will wear through brake pads much faster than a car that drives out on the country or on a highway most of the time. But yes, 52,000km is considered pretty normal for a city car.

Got pretty expensive quotes from dealer and another independent euro car specialist. Thinking of buying the parts myself and then finding someone for the labour. How does this look?

I might be wrong, but I dont think the 162TSI Tiguan has the 340mm disks. I believe your car will have the 312mm front brakes. The 340mm disks are usually reserved for the top spec R models.

As for rear brakes, if your rear disks are vented (which I believe they will be) then they should be 310mm.

Pretty sure the build sticker inside the rear wheel well, and inside the owner's manual, will include a code which corresponds with the brake package fitted to your car.

I meant the actual dedicated Tiguan R model with 235kw which will have the bigger 340mm brakes, not the R-Line. Im pretty certain the R-Line has the same brakes as a Golf GTI which are the 312mm ones. My neighbour has a Tiguan 162TSI thats always parked on the street, so ill have a look at his brakes later today to confirm.

For reference both our 147TDI Elegance Tig's have 340mm front discs

I'm not certain but the lowest spec 'Life' FWD only may have the smaller front rotors, i.e. 312mm

Where The Tiguan R does differ is in the rear discs. They are ventilated rather than the solid discs that are on the rest of the models. Furthermore the front calipers in the R look more robust and may have multiple pistons rather than the single piston on the lesser models.
