My first reaction is the same as most people - fantastic, especially if it's tailored fit and pre-painted correctly, the premium should be worth it. But then once I read all the stories about them not fitting, colors not always matched and the actual cost combined with that lovely polite email service and yeah, I was suddenly very attracted to the DIY solution.

Especially when that would have involved me standing around keeping the chat going while tigger made it work for me.

Moot point as applicable car is now gone.

Thanks Tigger. As I said I am looking to fit smaller plugs and get the paint a bit closer (Oryx White). 1st prize is filling holes and repaint but wolfy is new born so not wanting to mess with it too much. BTW got some of the black goop off the back so that's looking really good. Would really like to find some smaller flatter plugs for the front.

I got some plastic plugs from Autobarn for a buck each and painted them up. The plugs had a bigger head than I would have liked and used touch up pens with a sprayed clear coat. White base coat - then metallic top coat before light 1000 grit sand before spraying clear. I went a bit heavy on the metallic coats so I had some sanding thickness, unfortunately this had the effect of making the plugs more silvery than they should be. The fit was not very tight so I used a small dab of hot glue to be sure. Result is quite good and not nearly as ugly as before with my small plate. I have ordered some more plugs that look better from Widgetco in US and will see if I can do better. Cheap as, but postage not. Look like they have a smaller head and hopefully a tighter fit. I will go easier on the metallic next time. I await delivery. Contemplated Bumperplugs but hugely expensive and I didn't want to risk having to drill holes bigger so I can return to stock easily. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for sharing it certainly helps! I think I saw something similar to the plugs you used from ebay. Is it better to get 9mm plugs as it will be a better fit? The plugs have rubber material for the insert?

I now know what you mean with these plugs as it’s quite thick so doesn’t look as flush? However my car is black so might not show as much?
I’m undecided now and might revert back to the carpenter’s circle thingies.....

I think it is just a matter of finding the smallest flushest plugs you can. I guess the rubber part on the plugs you suggest might push through but 1 mm oversize might be a bit much. Not sure without seeing. I am going to have another try with some cabinet screw caps. All painted up and ready to go. I have just got to figure out a semi permanent way to neatly glue them on. I will post again when done. BTW these come in black so shouldn't need much effort to colour match in your colour. Just don't put too much of the metallic top coat over the base coat if you use a two part brush touch up, otherwise they might be overly silvery.

Nice they do look slightly smaller. I'm guessing they're flatter also?

On a white car you may be able to get away with unpainted but on a black car it’ll look a tad obvious.

This is what I’ve used in the past and they work well.

Yeah plan to use a black pearl paint to match the paint colour?

                        And the rear.

Really looks mint with the larger version front plates. I have a white tiggy too, and have ordered the black euro plates like yours - didn't realise the front is so small vs the back plate!

Will need to see if the dealer can upsize for free too. Do you know how much it costs to replace the front with the larger size?

I think the cost for the longer plates (front) is the same as the shorter plates so no change in cost?

It may have changed, but the situation a couple of years ago when we bought ours was that the large Euro front plates were only available with the white background.

If you wanted black background you first had to order the small plate, as per the photo, and then have the front plate remade in the larger size.

Cost at the time was $400 I think.

I suggest you stipulate the large size front and rear plate in the contract. If they then arrive with the small plate as ours did it’s then simply a matter of pointing it out in the contract and making the dealer fix it at their cost. We picked up the car and then ordered the new plate ourselves which was then reimbursed by the dealer.

Because of how quickly I bought the car and took delivery I just went with the dealer supplied ones in white until I could decide on what I would like best.

This is just after tint and prior to paint protection and bebadging still with the dealer plates, protectors and factory mounts. While I don't think the rear looks terrible with the small white plates, the front is stupid with the large Euro sized plate mount with any plate.

In the end I went for the full size Euro in White with security screws painted white for a cleaner look.
On the front I ditched the number plate mount, then plugged the factory holes with some rubber plugs which also help keep the plate off the paint. The dealers used tech screws all the way into the bumper so I just used those holes to mount the new plate.
On the rear I left the foam in place and just screwed into the factory M6 threads, but left the factory foam in place, again to keep the plates off the paint.

Very happy with how it turned out, super clean lines and in most light you cannot even see the screws which is what I was going for.

Nice one drifty. I've been toying with the idea of taking off the front plastic mould for my large front classic euro plate. I'm fairly certain my plate was screwed into the bumper when it was installed.
One question, when you do take the mould off, can it go back on afterwards? I think the plugs get broken in the process of removal?
