One question, when you do take the mould off, can it go back on afterwards? I think the plugs get broken in the process of removal?
thanks, mine was screwed through both the plastic mould and bumper, so i had to then get my holes precise on the plates to match.

the clips that hold it on are those 2 pieces ones. you push the centre through the hole (losing that piece some times) and then you can then pull the outer part of the clip. i don't have any pics on hand of mine, but they are similar to the ones on a GTI in the picture.

If you wanted black background you first had to order the small plate, as per the photo, and then have the front plate remade in the larger size.

Cost at the time was $400 I think.

I suggest you stipulate the large size front and rear plate in the contract. If they then arrive with the small plate as ours did it’s then simply a matter of pointing it out in the contract and making the dealer fix it at their cost. We picked up the car and then ordered the new plate ourselves which was then reimbursed by the dealer.
Thanks for the info! I can confirm it’s still $400 once off fee. Dealer trying to tell me if I upgraded to larger plates, it’s considered a ‘custom’ and will incur $400pa. Incorrect.

Given you now had to fit the larger plate to the black plastic, I’m assuming you couldn’t reuse the same holes drilled into the smaller plate?

          For NSW,

Euro plates only incur an annual fee if you order a personalised or custom plate.

If it’s standard euro plates than you only pay the order fee

I paid the initial small fee ($100ish) for plates with the whole delivery, and got the stupid normal white with the VW dealship logo all over them.

Then after taking delivery got around to ordering the Classic Euro Whitye plates using the preset character requirements which is called Personalised and that cost a $400 one-off fee (varies depending on style) and then ongiong annual fee of $107.

If you choose the option to Restyle an existingg plate then yes it is only the order fee which varies on the style you choose and there is no ongoing yearly cost.

If you were to go outside the preset chracters it is then called Custom and has the $400 order fee (again varies on style) and then $464 each year.

All of this is pretty easy to work out on the MyPlates website.

Custom plates are when you pick the numbers and pay an annual fee for the privilege.

Don’t let the dealer snow you. If you stipulated large black background euro plates for the front in the contract, and the dealer just realised they’re $400 extra that’s his problem. He should know what the plates cost.

What is the best style of number plate for the Tiguan ?

I used the euro plates on my previous car and purchased the plates (ie what ever was in stock & randomly assigned to me) without any changes to the letters or numbers and didn’t pay any annual fee at all.

However, if you wish to “personalise” ie change the letters or numbers (but still keep the existing format) then it’s fee of $107. If you were to “custom” (ie change the format completely) then annual fee of $464 applies.

                Is my understanding correct?

I’ve changed my order for number plates from premium black on white to Black Euro Classic for my black Tiggy (standard so dealer said cost is $400 & no annual fee)

Black plates on dark cars look the best. Fingers crossed the dealer doesn't just drill through the center of the plates to mount them!

Where is the dealer supposed to drill the holes through the plates ?

The rear mounting holes are vertically central in the plate area. When you center the plate on the rear hatch the holes may line up with numbers or letters of some plates. Usually the dude mounting the plates is the same bloke on $16 an hour washing the lot cars and doesn't give much of a toss where the holes end up or how the plate looks when mounted and the dealership rarely spends the $$ to use a plate mount suited to our plates.

That's why I was so pleased I was able to get a set of Lakin plate brackets. Perfect fit and no big screws through the plate.

Just be mindful there are two size options for the front plates. The dealership I used stated they only get the smaller front plate from RMS, and that's what they fitted.

This is not correct. The large plates are available at no cost with the white background and a $400 cost to “remake” the front plate.

If you have stipulated large front plates, and the dealer hasn’t provided these then you’ve been dudded. But if you don’t do your homework first, you can only blame yourself.

Have a read through previous posts to avoid being ripped off by the dealer.

Just received my black Euro plates and they look awesome! Matches the car colour perfectly. The colour of the plates changes from different angles so it’s pretty cool.

Had to paint the screws for the plates to black.

And while I had the spray can, painted the etag black too [emoji3]. You will also need black double-sided tape to cover the white adhesive for the bracket.
