What is the best style of number plate for the Tiguan ?
My dealer must’ve done it as part of the detailing. Surprising as the detailing was otherwise pretty ordinary.
Maybe you can ask your dealer to remove it if you haven’t had it long?
1.5 years ...
Oh well, I'll get it done if/when I get the paint properly detailed

I got rid of the black foam stuff. Just bodywork underneath which is good.
Not a fan of those Euro plates with the brown against the black car. But I also think full size Euros are like a billboard and ugly anyway. Each to their own.
I personally removed the factory bracket and installed a slim bracket and standard NSW slimline plates (back lettering on a white plate).

Jimi, do you need to patch any holes after removing the factory bracket? Which slimline bracket did you use? Any photos of the finished product?

It depends on width of the front plate you fit if it covers the holes or not.
I’m getting my front bumper filled and resprayed. Though only as I’m getting other work done. I wouldn’t normally have bothered and would have used some touch up paint on stickers or bumper plugs which are available painted in VW colours.

I was fortunate enough to come across some Lakin brackets (they're no longer making them). My preference was for the most subtle plates possible and no drilling or filling, and the brackets are designed to use the holes already in the bumper bar and boot. I should take a better picture of the front when the light is better (the car was in the garage). I think there are similar ones available elsewhere, though I'm not sure if they specifically work with the Tiguan.

The key drawback of the front one is that there is still some bracket visible, but it's a choice between that or patching the factory holes and drilling new ones under the plate (and I wasn't brave enough to do that!)

I would like to remove the black plastic plate frame as it looks tacky but I’m getting a black car so hopefully the black plastic frame blends in with the smaller plate?
Don’t really want to respray the bumper or plus holes?

the bunnings carpentry sticker + grey metallic spray paint did the job (thanks tigger73 for the idea and dutch77 for pointing me in the right direction)

Can you advise where to get the stickers and paint from?
Bunnings!
stickers are called "screw caps". Come in a pack for 200 (lol) so I have plenty left if ppl want them (Sydney south)
I got lucky with the spray paint . The colour match was surprising and took a little nozzle control to get the right amount onto the sticker. in any case, they're so small it'd be difficult to spot any variation

Congratulations! Yes although it’s not perfect I think it’s a massive improvement over having the bulky plate frame there and a relatively small from plate.
The stick on dots are surprisingly sticky and have lasted 18+ months with weekly washing on my Scirocco.
The dots could be parking sensors if you didn’t look really closely and look pretty clean anyway.
