Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Is there a way to adjust the Tiguan highline headlights?

When driving home the other day I noticed that the lights on my Highline didn't seem to be illuminating the road far enough ahead of me.

Any ideas how I can check the setting for this or anyone confirm if there highline has a way to adjust the vertical light level?

    It's auto adjusted.

Ok, that might explain it. So the dealer would have to program an adjustment?

I had mine adjusted at the dealer, I found the lighting too low, making it difficult to drive especially across mountain roads.

You can adjust it using an allen key on the back of the headlight.
          Current:
          2017 Mk2 Tiguan 162TSI, R-line, White
          2020 Mk7.5 Golf R Wagon, White

Thank you, is there a video or instruction on how-to somewhere?

Is it the low beam or high beam that is too low?

Have it checked by the dealer before fiddling with the height as there are many things that might lead to them being low. If the high beam is OK I would say the low beam is correct also. You also need to know how to layout the proper height lines on a wall and the distance the car is from that wall.

Best to park 20m from a wall and make small changes. Don't over adjust as you'll blind everyone.

20 metres, are you sure about that?

I'm not quoting official adjustment process, rather suggesting by parking a certain distance away from a wall you can work out if the headlights are being adjusted up/down. Really its making small changes and then ensuring it isn't extending past the leading edge of the hood of oncoming sedans in the distance, that way you shouldn't be blinding anyone.

My car (from new) would only illuminate 35-40m in front of me at night time on a country road which meant I couldn't really travel any faster than 40-50km/hr safely. After some small adjustments I can see down the road safely at speed without blinding other drivers.

An example of what you're aiming for is:

Does anyone know why there is no electric height adjust of the halogen headlights in the new Tiguans (Trendline, Comfortline)?
I could adjust the height in my previous 2010 Tiguan with a button, no problem.

So if I adjust the lights using the Allen key, does it mean they will readjust back to what they where next time i restart the car? That's what I've been told.

I think I can only see about 4-6 meter. It was scary driving down a county road for the first one last week
