Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

WTF VW ... what about the Tiguan !!
These are really all the entry models in the range e.g the jetta is an entry Passat, the t-roc is an entry Tiguan and the polo is an entry golf.

To me, I think these AID's don't look as good as the currents as the fuel gauge etc are all on screen as opposed to being a hard gauge outside of the AID.

In saying that, it would be nice if they updated to a more customisable layout as there are many functions I don't use and others that I would like to but can't as they are on other screens.

At the moment, I have the oil temp showing in the centre as I have become used to the speed in the bottom right.. barely use maps in the AID as I use android auto and Waze but would love more variety in the dials etc

The main benefit of the new AID is that's its dials are fully customisable and you can make the navigation maps 'full screen'

      • ^ In current AID, press ”OK”-button in steering wheel to get dials smaller and map wider. Difference to new one is not so big.

          • Talked to a dealer today about a 132TSI allspace comfortline, and he said that the MY19 models have the DAP as standard also on the comfortline Is this true, or could I have misunderstood what he said, and that only some of the features of the DAP is now standard?

DAP is standard on MY19 Highline not sure on Comfortline - I’d check.

Adaptive Cruise is something that should be standard on any$30k+ car these days.

              • Just checked the MY19 brochure, included now is

Front Assist with City EB and Pedestrian Monitoring
Lane Assit with Adaptive Lane Guidance
                Dynamic LED Headlights
                Driver Fatigue Detection system

Not sure if Dynamic LED Headlight is the same as "LED headlights with dynamic cornering lights (for Dynamic Light Assist)"

                Edit: the DAP is still there, but now specifies only these things;

                Optional Driver Assistance package
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert, Emergency Assist & Traffic Jam Assist

So I guess it's $1500 for adaptive cruice control.

Spoke to a nice guy at VW. He confirmed the details in the Week 48 Bulletin

Confirmed for the MY19 Tiguan update
                  - Removal of v1 AID 12" display and replaced with v2 AID 10.2" display (as in the new VW Polo)
                  - Mentioned the 10.2" display has a higher resolution & can do full screen maps
                  - Removal of audio port (not that I would ever use this)

I love my AID but am already over the crappy VW maps and never use them. I wanna know when Android Auto and Car play will project into the AID and/or a decent HUD. Also wireless connectivity for both, with wireless charging.
Tech for all already exists, just not implemented and/or optioned here.
Hoping the MY21 has this feature when my lease is up!

Does anyone know if the new AID v2 (as on the new Polo) allows to display Android Maps on the AID ?

                        • Sorry if hijacking a bit.

Is there a comparison somewhere that lists the differences between the 2017 build and the 2018? I noticed the infotainment system is different, but what else?

There’s difference in build dates is going effect your resale value.

The MY is what determines the specs. You can get a 2017 build MY18 car and a 2018 build MY18 car. Both same spec but depreciation will hit the 2017 build harder. Just make sure you take that into account when negotiating a price as it’s already a 1 year old car and will soon be considered a 2 year old car in terms of resale value.

I’m surprised that there’s still 2017 build stock around. Any dealer that has one of these cars is going to be super keen to shift it.

                              • Hmm... I picked up a MY17 this weekend for 50k - 162tsi, R-line, and DAP.

They have it down as VW executive driven vehicle, clocked at 1500km only with 5 years manufacture warranty...

Was it a sounds choice, or have I make a horrible mistake
