Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Does anyone know for sure? Maybe a list of improvements? Also I assume that the changes apply to both Tiguan and Allspace.
Has a Petrol Particulate Filter been added to the MY19 Tiguan 162 ?

Do you have a VW notice that outlines the MY19 engine changes you are referring to ?

I don't know for sure but I don't think it has PPF.

If you Google on EA888 CHHB you will see various lists of changes, but it is unclear exactly which ones came to Oz and when - because we are but a small part of the world market.

Will still be interested if this version actually makes it to Australia or whether this is a cost cutting motion done in the UK to keep costs down by using polo parts?

                    • It looks like VW have released the Petrol Tiguan into the UK market with the updated 169kw / 230 PS engine. Would we expect to see that motor replacing the current 162kw variant in aus ? I heard they were phasing out the 162

                      • Yeah I heard this as well. Is it an upgraded engine or same engine but tuned slightly with more power? I’m really not fussed if it’s the same engine with a small power increase.

If it’s a totally new engine technology then it’s worth the change.

"Volkswagen has added a 2.0-liter TSI engine to its Tiguan range. The new 230ps gasoline unit produces 350Nm of torque, allowing
                          a 6.3-second 0 to 100km/h, and a top speed of 228km/h.

The engine is offered in both R-Line Tech and SEL Tiguans, and is fitted to 7-speed DSG gearbox as standard. The range-topping gasoline achieves a WLTP-approved 7.7 l/100km on a combined cycle, with CO₂ emissions of 175g/km."

I suspect the increase from 162kW to 169kW is an ECU mod to compete with the new Mazda CX5 Turbo which is at (170kW/420Nm, AWD)

Although it did shave 0.2 sec 0-100 from 6.5 secs to 6.3 secs

Now only question is will it make it into the MY19 2019 Builds for Oz ??

I read an article recently that highlights that we miss out on the newer engines due to our poor fuel quality and I believe we would remain on current engine tech unless our fuel quality improved..

I'll try to find the article.

                            Edit: found it!

Looking at the UK VW site, it does not appear in the Tiguan configurator / catalog but is visible in the model compare

CX5 turbo does 0-100 in 7.7sec so the 162tsi already easily beats it in terms of performance
