Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • With VW announcing that the MY19 GTI is now ditching the 169kw engine and opting for the 180kw, when do we think VW will standardise that across the other models ? Ie do you think the 162 Tig will end up with the new 180kw block ?

Personally I think they’ll wait until a mid-life update to change the engine output. They have to hold something back and make it attractive for people to upgrade in a year or 2.

      • Reports frpm German Forums that the Active display is going to be the same as the T ROC from week 48, the T Roc dispaly is two inches smaller Than the Tiguan but seems to do a whole lot more. You can bet that as this type of technology gets more mature it is going to be changed much more frequently.

        • It’s a shame that we can’t update the software like we do on our phones and get a new look and features once a year.

          • How much difference is there really between the engines 162kw vs 180kw? Are there different components or is it just a higher tune on the turbo etc ?

            • Can somebody help please. I am wanting to know what the exact length of the rear sill protection strip is.(5NA061195A) or equivalent. I happen to be passing through USA and was considering trying to put in my suitcase. It seems that in the USA 5NN061195A7W Bumperdillo has superceded the previous spec part. I can grab here for $100 US, but it would cost at least $70 US to ship it separately, so exchange rates considered not really a bargain. I have searched extensively
              Thanks

                • I want to thank the helpful members and particularly tigger73 for all the helpful posts in this and other Tiguan threads.

This week we signed up for an MY19, Highline fully loaded in Tungsten Silver. 5 year warranty (which tipped us over the edge), no Service Plan. Delivery is quoted as several weeks. Like everyone, the waiting period begins.

Was able to get a bit over 5% off the total price, and my sense is that the Allspace has freed up supply of the 5-seater, helped by poor Sept sales. Hence the introduction of the 5-year warranty.

Thanks again, and I'll be more actively involved here now. Must figure out how to change my tag, the GTI has long gone...

                    Congrats mate!

In my opinion Tungsten silver is hands down the best colour available!! We waited to see what the Wolfsburgs looked like before deciding and while they are nice, we still see the Tungsten as the best colour option

I'd say 18kw is the main difference..

The 162tsi engine is essentially the same engine as what's in the golf R but the turbo is an is20 and not an is38.

The 132TSI is a different engine design and can't just have a turbo and tune added to increase to the same level as the 162 or golf R performance.

Thanks for that, obviously we agree.

We saw several Wolfsburgs this week at dealers as we shopped for our car. Personally I didn't see enough difference ie above a loaded Highline to justify buying one. It was mainly the dark wheels that differentiated them. Now if they had the 180kW engine, it would be quite a different equation.

The rumours are that the 180kW engine will be here at the end of 2019.

The Wolfy does look great but agreed it’s just a cosmetic makeover. It would be a dealbreaker for me if it had the 180kw (or better) engine.
Also +1 on the Tungsten Silver

                            Super shmick

Does this mean the MY19 Tiguan Active Display is going from 12 inches to 10 inches ?

                            When is Week 48 ?

Is that Week 48 for Australia or some other country ?

                            • This is an internet rumour and all internet rumours are always true.....I think not so let's see what happens. I do think that these new TFT screens will mean a single screen across a lot of cars with software differences and that has happened already so it is possible the T Roc screen could be used.

                              • Agree that standardisation is the name of the game nowadays, but the market trend is for bigger LCD displays, and the current one is not all that big (we drove a current Golf GTI with the display in Germany in August).
