Does anyone know the difference between MY18.5 and MY19 ?

i.e. what additional extras would come with an MY19 Tiguan 162 Highline compared with the MY18.5?
Howdy. Just re-livening this thread, as it seems news of any updates is likely to come out in the next week or so...

We must be getting closer. Volkswagen have spoken about MY19 plans for the Golf now (Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance trim becomes standard for MY19 | CarAdvice)

^ makes the 162TSI motor/tune in the Tig seem a bit old hat...

It looks like a fairly predictable cycle... given the wait times and queue, my guess is anything you order now from the factory would likely be MY19 anyway. I’d get my order in and perhaps ask the dealer to specify MY19 on the order.

As the GTI engine appears to be discontinued, does this mean the new MY19 Tiguan Highline will get the new GTI 2L turbo that upgrades from 169kW/350Nm to 180kW/370Nm ?

Sorry to disappoint you but I think the 162TSI is here for a bit longer. The Allspace (which is a MY19 spec) is coming out with the 162TSI as the top of the range petrol model. I'd strongly suggest that the 5 seat Tiguan is going to have the same engine.

Does VW normally announce the MY19 specs in May or June ?

They’ve kept the Passat and Arteon at 206kw even though the Golf R has had slightly more (213kw) for some time. So Volkswagen has form in doing this and I suspect the Tiguan may stay where it is at 162.

If we assume the Allspace gives it away, there isn’t much to look forward to for the reg Tiggy in MY19

Seeing they are dumping the 162 in the Golf for emissions reasons it might be reasonable to assume the Tiguan will get the 180kw base motor that will be put in the Golf.

The big change for MY19 is the introduction of 7 seats. Isn’t that a big enough update for you guys??? [emoji6]

Reality is I think the standard Tig will just have some relatively minor spec changes... maybe a new colour.

Yep kinda hoping for that. Then I’ll be able to get one that’s in stock now instead of waiting a few months [emoji108]

                              No, not really

When VW supply the 221kW / 380Nm engine in the Tiguan I will be satisfied, maybe (0–100 km/h in 4.9 s)

                              Golf R 1,984 cc 221 kW at 5,500-6,200 rpm 380 Nm at 1,800-5,500 rpm | 7-speed DSG | 0–100 km/h 4.9s

Just get a tune and the engine will have more power and much more torque than the stock R. Want more power than the stock R? You'd need a tune anyway and if you're that keen get the IS38 turbo and you're away. No need to wait for VW as they may never release this. Remember, it's not what they could or can do, it's all about where that model fits into their bigger picture.
