If it is something different, are you able to activate the Pedestrian collision avoidance via a VCDS tweak on the MY18.5 ?
OK I'll have to quizz the dealer a bit more as I've checked the brochure/specs for MY18.5 and you're right it already has the pedestrian monitoring as standard. Maybe they're getting confused.

I'm guessing if it was pedestrian avoidance it may include steering as well rather than just alert/braking. I haven't yet physically seen a MY19 spec/changes document. I've just been told these word of mouth from the dealer.

In terms of VCDS it really will depend if the function is already written/available in the module that's in your car or if there's a new version of the control module with updated software that has the extra features. In which case you have to upgrade the module and then enable the option.

Should've asked the dealer - I was in over the weekend and they had said for a fully loaded the next shipment would be October, but, "you would get a MY19 model"

I didn't ask further as I know other dealers with stock, so wasn't interested in October delivery

Spoke to a VW dealer this morning and he said there is no change with the MY19 model and that if there was, the dealership would have already been notified.

Take this with a grain of salt as I couldn't tell if he was saying this to make the sale now instead of people waiting a few months until the MY19 is available.

VW are having huge issues with setting up compliance and testing of the emission standards as are all other manufacturers and are actually shutting down production as are BMW to prevent production problems so any changes to the 2019 cars are the least of their problems at the moment...https://www.bbc.com/news/business-44383226

MY19 changes have just been notified to dealers. As I understand:

Another half dozen chrome removals (more of what MY18.5 brought)

A change of seas. Atlantic Blue added as an option (instead of Caribbean Blue which was discontinued). But neither this nor Ruby Red available with the R Line.

Only other change of substance is to Manoeuvre braking (which I believe is slow <5km movement). It will operate when going forward as well reversing (currently only operates when reversing). I’m confused about this one though as I thought there was some existing autonomous protection in bumper to bumper traffic eg when taking foot off the brakes accidentally. Not sure.

              Anyhow nothing significant it seems.

I am a bit puzzled about the engine specifically the 162. VW has said they are abandoning the 162 in the Golf due to it not meeting emission compliance and lifting the power output, if that is the case it would seem to follow that the 162 in the Tiguan would have to be upgraded the same as the Golf.

I think it’s the gearbox that saves it. Anything with a 7sp wet clutch has been okay (rather than a particular engine)
                  MY14 MK VII GTI | Pure White | Manual | Bi-Xenons (his)
                  MY19 B8 Passat 206TSI wagon | Manganese Grey (hers)

Golf still uses the six speed?

Let us know if you get precise details about 'Manoeuvre braking' ?

                      Cheers

Guessing this is VW generally and not Golf specific? That sucks, I’d love a Golf with Caribbean blue! Closest to the old Pacific Blue

No it doesn’t. 7sp dry in lower models and 7sp wet in the sole GTI left in MY19 and all Rs

Have a look at the NZ VW site. Note the 162 r line is its own variant and has HUD. Also different spec sheet for Allspace - notably the top end model gets a 176kw 500 nM biturbo diesel. Curiously both are shown on the brochures as MY18 even though we havent had official release of the Allspace spec yet and about to jump from 18.5 to 19. I would expect that vehicle standards not too different between AU & NZ so wonder why different spec. HUD should work just as well if not better as it works as per GPS. I am guessing the specs for both SWB & LWB Tigs will issue here at same time. Volkswagen New Zealand - Tiguan

Volkswagen NZ have always offered different specs to VW Australia, and the Kiwi's pay for that too.
