I suggest you test drive the T-Roc and Tiguan back to back. It's a bit like getting out of a Golf and jumping in a Passat. You'd think that the extra 86mm in wheelbase wouldn't make such a big difference in how a car handles but it goes a long way to how maneuverable the car feels. And that's what it's all about how it feels. The current Tiguan has certainly grown from the previous version with a bigger boot and more rear seat room, however what it has gained in space it has traded off with vehicle dynamics and how nicely balanced the T-Roc is.

      Retrofit Power Tailgate

I was looking at retro-fitting a power tailgate as it is only offered in the options pack with a sunroof and the way ugly brown/grey leather trim with the lovely white border .... and I really don't want either...

These are the parts required, as best as I could determine:

      • 2GA827552A 905 - 1 * RH Strut - Gas Filled

        2GA827851B 905 - 1 * LH Strut - Motor Drive

        3G0827887C - 1 * Motor to close tailgate latch

        3G0854719B - 3 * Motor Clips

        2GA827535A - 1 * Bowden cable

        2GA827506A - 1 * Lid Lock for power tailgate

        2GA827427A - 1 * Strut Mount Bracket - RH

        2GA827428A - 1 * Strut Mount Bracket - LH

        5Q0919279 - 1 * Buzzer

        5Q0959107N - 1 * Tailgate Control Module

        N91158501 - 2 * Trim Clip

        3G0959831BWHS - 1 * Push Button Switch

      plus a wiring loom and coder - https://www.kufatec.com/en/volkswagen/v ... -a11-42748

But it starts getting a little expensive, although there are many second hand parts available in Europe that would make it much more attractive.

Some further install instructions on a German site: https://www.t-rocforum.de/threads/anlei ... appe.1097/

Yes I find the way the packages are grouped is a little unfortunate.

I’m also not a fan of the leather seats and it seems you can’t get a sunroof without leather (apart from in the launch special edition).

I probably wouldn’t choose the 19” alloys as I think the standard Sebring 18’s look great, do not have machined faces (which are expensive to repair) and are probably a good deal lighter.

I can probably live without the electric tail gate but would be nice to get the adaptive dampers and upgraded audio. Such is life with options packs.

The electric tailgate has one very annoying flaw. You can only close it electrically by using the button on the tailgate. For anyone under 1.5m tall that is a problem. I think the Skoda equivalent comes with the foot activated tailgate. I wonder if that could be fitted?
If you dig a hole and it is in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn't going to help.

I’m pretty sure the electric tailgate can only be closed with the button. I have the auto tailgate in my Tiguan and although you can open it by waving your foot underneath you can’t close it the same way. I think it’s more of a safety feature. Same as you can’t close it from the fob or the boot release in the drivers door. You physically have to press the button on the boot so you don’t accidentally close it on something.

The other half is thinking of a replacement of the Golf in 18 months. Enough time for the Golf 8 to have been out in Australia to see how it goes but the T-Roc is high on our list.
Question - does any one have news if a new generation/refresh/facelift T-Roc is coming out in 2022 based off the same platform as the Golf 8 (MQB Evo) and hopefully updated tech.
I know it will be close to the arrival of the ID.4 but for our needs the kms of extension leads we would need to recharge it is not practical.

Yes T-Roc update is due in the next 12-18 months.. So not that long after the local launch. Sounds like timing might be right for when you’ll be looking to update.

Looking for a 110 for a test drive but dealership only had 140 as a demo. I felt the steering was too light and had little feel despite reviews, then I notice the sports version has progressive steering, maybe it does tighten up with speed. Hopefully the 110 drives a bit more like a Golf which I have. Can anyone confirm this?

The electric tailgate height can be set lower so you can reach the button. I am pretty sure that the tailgate button on the drivers door on my passat closes the boot as well as a long press on the remote.

What does everyone think about the active info display in the T-Roc. I saw in the CarExpert video review that it has a lower quality setup and when I test drove one it seemed to be a lower resolution than my 7.5 Golf GTI.

Anybody notice this too? Or can confirm?

                          Link not working.

Got the Auto Stop/Start in the 140TSI Sport and I just disable it every time I start up. Bit of a pain but now just part of the procedure - start/AC/S&S

                              Cheap Boot Mat

Was going to just get a genuine VW one then saw this BBQ mat in Bunnings for $15.

Measured the boot up, made a couple of cardboard templates for the edges, bent a strip of alum to get the bottom edge profile marked out on masking tape then cut with scissors and in around 30 mins ..... one $15 boot mat.

A little PVC smelly at the moment, so will leave in the sun for a couple of days.
