Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

That's great man. Even the wheels look good in that shot (which I didn't like at first). Resemble fractured patterns, similar to the cracks in the road. Maybe it's just me....

Liking the black (on red) decal along the side which flows to front louvres.

White & Red are my faves for this special edition.

      Enjoy.

Had all the plans to start moding it as soon as it arrived but I'm really enjoying the stock car so far, think it will retain better value stock too.

        Enjoy.

                Nice plate.

I echo the sentiments about it looking good in red. I'm not normally a fan of red cars apart from Ferrari's but the GTI 40 looks the business in red with the contrasting black details.

Damn fine looking pair you've got there, was this before or after the Natio run? I did my first run through Natio the day I picked mine up. Drove from Penrith to the Scarborough Hotel for a little lunch on the cliff then up through Natio on the way back to Sydney, grinning from ear to ear the whole way home. Come to think of it I haven't stopped grinning since I first laid eyes on her at the dealers the day I picked her up.

Just ordered some of this and got the Protectant as well as the cleaner, I've got this annoying tiny little patch on the right hand side of the wheel, it feels like some ham fisted apprentice sat in the seat and put their dirty mits on the wheel and the fibres have stuck together, i'm hoping this will sort it out.

                      • Very sad day... got a call in the morning saying car didn't arrive from the compound and earliest delivery would be Monday.

                        I expressed severe disappointment.

Junior salesperson had the audacity to call me back 2 minutes later saying that I could still come in and pay if I wanted to.

I don't think these forums are equipped to convey the blasting I gave him.

Got an apology from the general manager an hour ago.

Sorry to hear about your delayed delivery, did you pick it up today?

                          • Nice timing - I was just going to post!

Well... it was worth the wait!

With 23km on the oddy from the dealership I was so giddy driving it home. Then had to leave it behind to go back to work! I just took it for a quick night spin around Sydney CBD/Southern Cross Dr.

It feels like the first time I drove my Mk6 GTI. It has me grinning and I can't wait to take it on the road again. So far I've been reasonably tame driving to loosen it up - but I gave it a decent go once it was warmed up. Comparing to my Mk6 GTI there's a few things that struck me:
                            • Surprisingly feels more refined (not sure how they managed to make it feel like a step up!)
                            • 1st/2nd gears more 'grippy' ?? ... i.e. no problem coasting over speed humps without any friction / feels less likely to stall. I wonder if this is due to the extra kW?
                            • The pull and warble of launching into 3rd!
                            • Improvement to the gearstick is very noticeable to me especially the the better clearance vs the front cluster
                            • Initially missed the red glows but quickly appreciating the clean look that the white instrument lights give it
                            • Not to jinx myself - but no rattles at all yet??

Car looks fantastic and I'm really appreciating some of the modern tech. Overall, very happy with my decision to upgrade. Might have to run some pointless driving errands this weekend!

At the dealership. (They're giving me first year's service for free to make up for the delay.)

Obligatory knob picture. Look at those sexy dimples.
