turn around in plants are around 1 month from start to finish as your car is not always getting worked on everyday...
Not for a second am I disagreeing because I don't have a clue, but, the logistics just don't up as a month of production would equate to tens of thousands of new cars rolling of the production line and they physically wouldn't have room to store them.
I have been told in the past (right or wrong?) that it takes around 2 hours for a car from one end to the other along an assembly line. I know this would not include manufacturing/assembling engine/gearbox etc which in most cases is done offsite.
Your time frame possibly includes everything from plastic moulding to tyre manufacturing.
I'm not having a go at anyone but I am intrigued in looking for the correct answer.

Maybe a separate thread could be started?

My old man has done work with car manufacturers and suggest it takes 4 hours if actual time not including any down time.
At the end of the day I'll expect the car to arrive in January and hopefully I won't be disappointed anymore.

Ive heard a few story of production now, some say About a week to build and some a month, but what l do know from see dealership sheet of build dates for customers, its 9weeks from start to landing in Melbourne.
if you have already got the email about your new Volkswagen that means it's getting ready to start the production line.
I have spoken to my dealer and mine was suppose to start production by now but due to the screen issues that means delay most of you are in the same boat. some cars are already on there way and some will be on the October assembly line like me and should see our cars arrive in port around dec 20 that is the eta at the moment due to Christmas and shut down periods of trucking company's these cars should start to arrive early January which will mean compliance in 2018 instead of 2017.. I already have my cars stock number which in really terms means allocation number
When did you place your order? I placed mine last Monday and been told car is on production line due for late September delivery to Melbourne and mid October pickup for me. Maybe they are building the Wolfsburg editions later as I bought the standard R? I assume if you have your vin number then it's on the production line already?
Not doubting you re the build time, but a month sounds too long for building the car, just watched the production videos on YouTube for the golf, and the build time seems a lot quicker, like a couple of days only.
It's all done by robots and most parts like the doors and engines are already built so it's just putting them together like a big leggo set.

Ok, I've come to the conclusion that's it's a bit like asking a group of people 'how long is a piece of string?' You're gunna get ten different answers. Lol
I'm bowing out, thanks linesman and ballboys. [emoji41]

Haha totally with you Dave! In my mind, does it really matter? One day or one month, we're all stuck in the same boat waiting for it. Love your post Ground_Level, very insightful! I'm dreaming that mine is already on the boat but more likely I'll be a part of the Oct build Dec/Jan delivery crew. Hoping I can get the VIN, allocation numbers and all those details this Tuesday the 8th!

Build completion at the factory to arrival in OZ can vary from 7-10 weeks then add about 2 weeks for delivery here's my Wolfsburg built 07/06/17 note it took 3 weeks before the ship sailed this is longer than normal, usually 2 weeks factory to sailing. Due Port Kembla Tuesday 08/08/17
Thanks to all for sharing their thoughts on the email sent on Friday. Very helpful and has calmed me down a bit. If it is in Jan, well so be it. Going away in Dec/Jan so will be a nice surprise when we get back.
