VOLK RACING G25 - REVISITED
Specs: 18 x 8, ET50, weight tbc

A revisit to keep guys like Mikey and Avdo happy . These particular Rays are basically in OEM spec but do come in bigger, and wider, fitments.

I think Avdo prefers the Volk Racing G12 and ZE40. I still like the G25, but in Mercury Silver, not black. I can't really understand why everybody likes black wheels. I think the detail gets lost, particularly in photos when fitted to a car. Call me old fashioned if you like.

I obviously like the G25 given it has similarities to the OZ Leggera HLTs, and while I had a love affair with black wheels like a lot of people in recent years I have drifted back to preferring silver and graphite/anthracite wheels. I agree the detail is usually lost with black, which is why I quite like having at least the polished lip to give some definition to the wheel. Having said that I still love the black R with the Oettinger treatment in this thread!

This image is from over in the headlight thread I am curious as to what these wheels are? At first I thought they were Pretoria's but then I realised they are something else.

I could be wrong, but I suspect these aren't actually VW wheels at all. I came across this vehicle on golfmk7 and the owner claims they are 20 inch Amarok wheels - however to the best of my knowledge no such thing exists. He does reference a pic here: http://www.uebi7.com/img/fotos/amaro...o%2020%204.jpg , and these appear to be some type of Brazilian wheels 'Rodas HD Aro' here: RODA VW AMAROK / ARO 20 / 5 FUROS .

They do have an OEM look to them and must fit a VW centre cap to complete the look - and look great on the red Golf in question.

The closest to these in the VW range are the Savannahs but these are very aggressive for a Golf with 19 x 9 ET33 sadly. Similar styles also include Durbans and Salvadors (both 18 x 7.5 ET51) and Helix (18 x 8, ET48 ) all of which fit a Golf just fine.

Of course I could be wrong on my hunch above and happy for someone to correct, with some evidence!

I am interested in buying an R, but am not a fan of the Cadiz wheels. To much bling for me. So I am looking for a more subdued OEM or OEM looking alternative that is cost effective. Frustrated Pretorias are not a viable option.

No problems.

Pretorias: you and many others - especially given that the Germans pay 100 Euros to go from the Cadiz to Pretoria (900 v 1000 Euro - the 18 inch Cadiz are standard).

For OEM the choices will be limited if you stick to 19s - really only Omanyts, or perhaps the Talladegas from the Mk6? If you want/willing to drop to 18s then the list expands a bit, but may still require some work tracking down.

For OEM like obviously that list expands enormously, but is also dependent on your personal view of what feels OEM and of course your overall budget.

Happy to float some ideas if can clarify the above, or certainly this thread contains a lot of options already and hopefully a lot more to go.

These appeared on ABT's GTI Dark show car, and are 2,500 Euros from ABT excluding freight, duties and taxes; there are also 19 x 8.5 ET50s available which are a much friendlier fit for 2,080 Euros excluding freight, duties and taxes.

Stock GTI brakes look tiny with 20" rims! I suspect that more people will install BBKs in mk7s than they did with mk5/6s

..and just think that's not actually stock but the (slightly) bigger PP brakes there.

But agreed, if you're looking at 20s or an 'open' style 19 then a BBK may very well be needed to complete the look.

I'm running relatively open 18s which I think look ok with the stock brakes but in a perfect world I'd like a fat set of brakes under there too. But in that world I'd also be able to lower without impacting the Mk7 ride..

VW CHARLESTON

The Charlestons have been available in the past as a dealer accessory for Mk6 Golfs and Jettas, and likely on earlier vehicles as well (certainly in the USA it was and featured on a GTI model there).

I believe the Charleston's were standard on the limited edition Jetta GLI Fahrenheit Edition in the US iirc

You are correct as well. The GTI model was a North American Mk5 special (1,200 USA, 150 Canada) and came with DSG, sunroof, heated seats as standard plus the Fahrenheit Orange paint scheme and interior highlights. I've also seen reference to European tuned suspension which may have actually meant it got stock GTI suspension rather than the raised suspension GTIs got at the time.
