  • Guy was running VWR x 8.5 ET50 on VWR springs early in this thread and said no rubbing even with load.

Dropping below ET50 would likely see some rub up front unless the camber was played with.

Should be able to go lower on offset up back as the rear guards are fairly generous on the Mk7.

Avdo was at ET44 and has no rub on stock R suspension, the Eibachs would be lower but if they do tuck the fronts a little then may be able to get away with it.

Obviously this thread does feature much more aggressive fitments than this but those cars will also feature heavily worked suspension adjustments as well.

    • The front fenders have a screw located at 12 O'Clock (same as the MK5 / 6 models), so depending on tyre profile, you can bend this in / remove it if it's your sole point of contact.

A little personal bias creeping in again on the OZs. Note that the car in the third pic would be running 18 x 8 ET48s.

Another German brand with a reasonable selection of wheels: DIEWE WHEELS - Startseite . These five spokes are also available in 17 x 7 and 19 x 8.5 and numerous different finishes, as pictured in 18 x 8 will set you back around $1,800 ex UK including freight, duties and taxes.

Borbet have done OEM wheels in the past for VW and these certainly have that feel about them, right down to taking a VW centre cap on the blue R here. A decent quality wheel but will cost around $2,800 landed to import a set of these in 19s.

              • The Blue R is more then likely running some spacers on the back as the wheels are almost flush with the guards

Well spotted and agreed, x 8 ET50 is OEM spec and they sit well inside the rear guards. Not sure on the legality of these in the UK and Europe but do notice a lot of their cars seem to use them to give a flush look when they are working with OEM wheels with higher offsets.

As the name suggests, these versions of the Audi 5 Arm Rotor as they're referred to, are off the A6. Finding a genuine set wouldn't be easy.
Holy moly, these look a tad ridiculous on a Golf. The ride must be abysmal using 225/30 profile tyres. The line in the sand must surely be drawn at 19 inches. There are enough detractors who think 18 inches has already hit the sweet spot!

A lot of people seem to have issues with 20" wheels! I have a 981 Boxster with 20" Carrera S alloys with 265/35/20 Pirelli P zeros and it rides better than my MK4 R32 with standard Aristos. The Boxster is 18 months old and I have done 25,000km's and the ride is fantastic.

Sure, I wish I could test drive a Golf with 20 inch wheels, but the comparison with your Boxster, optioned with factory 20 inch alloys shouldn't really be compared with a Golf, which has never been available with factory 20 inch wheels. This means that it's unlikely there has been any publicised manufacturer development engineering for the Golf to suit these diameter wheels, so any fitting of such wheels will be at the owner's risk. Also, looking at the actual physical section height of your 265/35 tyres, these would be equivalent to 225/40 tyres, which should have an acceptable ride quality on any Mk7 Golf, especially if fitted with adaptive dampers.

These wheels are sweet, in fact anything made by RAYS, particularly from their forged range, gets my attention. While the popularity of these wheels still seems to be the JDM and related export market, speaking to one of their authorised dealers, Tyre Point/Tyrepower Hawthorn, they inform me RAYS are working hard to offer Euro spec versions for more of their vast product range. If you want to learn more about RAYS, go straight to their Japanese website, which has an English option without needing to resort to your browser's translation: RAYS - The concept is racing. A list of authorised overseas dealers, including Australian, can be found when you hover your mouse under "RAYS Partner Shop". Note that www.rayswheels.com.au/ is not one of them.

                              • Loving this thread.

I ordered Oz Racing Ultraleggeras in 19x.8.5 ET 47 and KW DDC Coilovers for my MK 7 Golf R.

Now that I've seen a few examples here I'm beginning to think if my offset will look aggressive enough. Not wanting anything too out there but a flush stance would be great. Hmmm...thoughts?
