Wouldn't need much tyre black either..

Agreed on the brakes thing - I suspect it will eventually get them, I came across the guy's car previously and he had a modded Mk6 GTI.

A couple more of the Vossens with some very aggressive fitment - I'm not a white on white guy, but I'm probably not minding this:

What size wheels are you considering for your car? I like the idea of 19's to fill the wheel arches but I love the ride of the 18's so much I don't want to compromise that.

I've stuck with 18s for a few reasons - the ride comfort factor as you suggest, cheaper quality rubber, lighter wheels and better performance. I do like the look of 19s, but am more than happy with how the 18s sit, and IMO they can exaggerate the wheel arch gap rather than fill it.. I'm not planning on playing with suspension/springs any time soon.

I'm just going to be swapping the tyres straight across and stashing the Austins. If someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse I'd sell, but otherwise I'll just hold them for future resale on the car.

Another wheel I hadn't seen before, the Ispiri is a UK brand with some fairly aggressive wheel fitments - the above seems about as close to legal fitment as you'll get - without some work you'll be outside the guards. Nice looking range of wheels though, BMA Autosports which a few VWW people have used in the past with success are a dealer, a set of four of these are around $1,000 before freight, duties and taxes (on special).

Love these rims. Apparently they will be available in 19s soon. You'll have to be careful if your planning on BBK, the spoke design & offsets limit choices.

Love the thread, particularly the layout. Very good reference tool. Keep up the good work

                Cheers, much appreciated.

I actually started unofficially offline when trying to research rims for a Mk7 and found the net was scarce - that's now slowly changing. The one thing I did tend to find annoying on any wheel thread was the lack of info sometimes available on the specs and other notable components so I'm trying to rectify that where I can.

I welcome any comments such as yours so the thread becomes as useful as possible.

Also happy for style and fitment comments and debate - it doesn't just need to be pic posts all the time.

                • My favourite wheels continue to be the VMR 510s, love how they look and for the price pretty damn good.

                    VMR 710s?

                    Popular wheel and nice design.

I guess I am a bit of a brand whore with wheels which will generally have a better and lighter weight construction. The other issue of course with most VMRs is the x 8.5 ET45 size which will require additional work to fit. Whether that is slowly changing is possible - Lucas R has managed to get a set in x 8 ET50 which is a great fit (not 710s though).

If you think the VMRs are cheap then you can also check out GTC CX wheels available locally - cheaper again and coming from the same place. Which is still Taiwan. I suppose you get what you pay for though.

I've been meaning to post up a very good alternative to the VMRs for some time as I came extremely close to trying a set before sticking with the Italians, I'll get the details up tomorrow.

Another shot of standard OZ Ultraleggeras, this time with a gold finish up against a CSG car. These aren't my wheels but will actually be going on my colleague's Rex which is a similar color to my GTI. If you want to stand out a little I don't actually mind this - I think it works pretty well actually.

And yes - when you need to mount a wheel for show and there is nothing else to hand, you can rely on Reflex.

I've had a sneaky thought about gold wheels on a CSG colour car. I think it could work well, will be keen to see the Rex pics.

It absolutely can work, it's just not to everyone's tastes. My mate ran with it as its a very WRX thing and it's also a play on his name. Planning a few pics together once both our wheels are on so I'll be sure to keep one of his in the background for you.
