Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I did some preliminary research on the VDSC system. What anintriguing piece of kit! It appears to be a form of rudimentary assembler language that uses Hex coding for memory addressing. The little reading that I did suggests that it's just a matter of setting the correct bit in the right memory location toactivate/deactivate a particular function. It appears to do much, much more, but it contradicts the VW dealer's contention that bluemotion and day lights cannot be set to "off" as a default setting.

I'dlike to have a (very cautious) play with a VDSC cable. Can you confirm whether the Golf Mk7 is compatible with VAG? The cable and software doesn't appear to be too expensive. There is an eBay unit for $27 USD (Ver12.10.3 OBD2 Diagnostic Interface USB Cable Scanner). The other question I have is where on the car is the receptacle for the interface cable?
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

Check the VCDS section of the forum for info on tweaks (They're for other models, but they give you an idea of how to software works). All recent VAG cars use a hexcode system which the VCDS software translates into an easy to understand array of tick boxes. The ones on ebay aren't genuine and feature a very old hacked version of the software. Considering the amount of work ROSS-TECH did to get VCDS to work with the Golf 7, only genuine cables with the very latest version will work with it.

Lots of people own VCDS cables too, so you can always ask around and see if someone would use the cable on your car. There's a thread in the VCDS section i believe.

As for the port location, its usually under the steering wheel near the pedals, pink coloured port.

What a truely helpful lot you all are on this forum! Thank you for the information. I shall start my quest to learn more about the VCDS software.

        • I posted a link to the Mk6 VCDS thread a couple of pages back in this thread which has all the known Mk6 tweaks listed concisely with screenshots. Use the genuine Ross-tech cable, nothing else is worth the time and effort.

It may take a year or so before Ross-Tech updates the 'label files' for the Mk7 which basically turn a whole lot of random memory address numbers into meaningful text descriptions that you can turn on or off.

          • Back on topic - my dealer (who provided the spec sheets I posted) says firm pricing on Tuesday and official on-sale date of 7th Oct. Very keen to finally see and drive the car!

It'll be nice to give one a spin or see how much damage this new price really will do

My dealer told me just on Friday pricing will be the 11th and on sale the 12th. Will be interesting to see who is telling the truth. Can't wait to drive one though.

                • The Golf GTI 7 Power-Pack tested in the USA. GTI-PP puts out some impressive times with two adults on board ... better than stated by VW. Very favourable review. Apparently the only GTI 7 in the States atm. The American version of the GTI will be built in Mexico along-side the Jetta and Beetle:

                  • Nice note inside the cabin, and the ~5.9 0-62 time was a bit more impressive than the official marketing numbers.

                      Except it was only 0-96km/h

Motortrend has a 0-60mph time of 6.1 sec for a DSG MK6 GTI.

My info suggests pricing will be tomorrow (Tuesday) and VW website will be live with more info on the new model. Also suggests the initial demo cars will be on their way to dealers.

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of deal? Although I'm excited about pricing etc tomorrow for GTI, the wait has given me plenty of time to get interested in other cars! A250 looks pretty good.

And how long do you need to wait for your A250 to arrive?
